Lauryn Eagle: Exceptionally Talented and Accomplished Australian
Professional Boxer and Water Skiing Champion Reveals her Mantra of Success
"Conquer you Fears"
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout
routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: I absolutely thrive on a regular planned exercise routine.
Average 2 -3 hours a day depending on my work commitments. I love running.
Nothing beats putting on my music and pounding the roads and beaches of this
beautiful city we all live in. I can sometimes run up to 10km a day. I also do
lots of core strengthening with weight assisted crunches, lengthy sustained leg
raises and a punishing medicine ball workout. Skipping is a specialty and a
great cardio and rhythm workout for me. My routine becomes way more intense
leading into a fight with regular sparring and shoulder strengthening together
with hundreds of squats and lunges. For a change I sometime do my whole workout
in a swimming pool. The added water resistance really builds your strength.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you
follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: I really love my food. With the crazy hours I work at the
Eagle Fitness Gym at Taren Point it is important that I keep a regular healthy
eating regime. Lots of steamed vegetables and organic salads (mushrooms are my
favourite) with at least a good portion of grilled fish, lean steak or the
occasional pasta. Thank goodness my mum is a wonderful cook AND she knows
exactly what I need.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding
water skiing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what
they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of water skiing ?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: Water skiing was my life since I was very young. My dad really
instilled in me the hard work, the dedication and the mental toughness you need
to succeed in that sport. When you are open water skiing and racing sometimes
100m behind the boat you have to be very well disciplined in your mind to fight
the negative thoughts, the physical fatigue and the constant awareness of the
changing conditions around you. My Dad really knew how to bring the best out in
me. If I had any advice for young water skiers . You have to be dedicated to
the Sport but more importantly .. Trust your preparation and your team and
conquer you fears . It can be a very dangerous sport but it is exhilarating at
the same time.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You turned professional boxer in 2010. How did you feel
before and after your memorable win of World Boxing Foundation women's super
featherweight title on 13th July 2012 ?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: It is well publicized that I turned to boxing to channel and
control my anger at having my wonderful dad taken from me and my family in 2008.
But I seriously enjoy the sport. In the beginning I never really thought I would
end up a World Champion but once I started training my determination and
professional approach I had learnt in the Water Skiing Racing world spilled over
into the ring. Before that title fight in Melbourne I was determined to silence
the critics that thought I was a princess and had no place in the world of
boxing. The criticism just spurred me on and made me more determined to succeed.
After I won the fight I felt like I showed that when you put your mind to
something and you have the dedication and drive to succeed anything is
possible.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What kind of training you have for being a professional
boxer?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: As I mentioned earlier Boxing is a sport where your technique,
agility and power are very important. Technique is important because every
fighter you fight is different and you need to really have the right defence and
punching technique to counter the southpaw, the counter puncher, the body
puncher or the one punch pounders.. I do a lot of bag work and Sparring with all
types of opponents men and woman. Agility and speed around the ring is also
important so you have to be very, very fit. My skipping and
running help with this. You rarely win a fight without punching power so the
strength work I do on my shoulders and legs give me that power.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your
success in the field of your career in water skiing and as a professional boxer?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: This is an easy one. My Family have been my biggest influence
and have always guided me and supported me throughout all my career moves.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are leading water skier, model, professional boxer,
Reality TV star and beauty pageant winner . How you manage such a remarkable
multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: Variety is the spice of life. I love meeting new people and
challenging myself.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have done bold photo shoots for Maxim, how you are so
body confident and advice to your compatriots?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: I was nervous with the Maxim shoot. My body shape has changed
over the years depending on what I am doing. My advice to woman out there is
don't be too hard on judging yourself and your body shape. Be comfortable with
how you look first and foremost. If you stick to a healthy eating regime and be
active your body will look after itself.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: At Costa Rica in Central America you competed in Miss Teen
International and made a clean sweep, winning Miss Teen International, along
with Most Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and Best Silhouette in 2005. Tell us
about this experience of yours ?
Ms. Lauryn Eagle: That was an eye opening experience thats for sure. It was a
whole new experience for me and one I will never forget. The girls in the
competition were so friendly and amazing. I was lucky to catch the judges eye ..
oh and I did ask for World Peace !!!!
