Kaylyn Kyle: Leading Canadian Women's Soccer Player Reveals her Success Mantra "Believe in yourself "
Kaylyn was named to the Canadian Women's World Cup Team in May of 2015. The FIFA
2015 Women's World Cup was hosted by Canada and she had the opportunity to play
on Canadian soil to a sold out Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, in the World
Cup opening game against China on June 6th 2015.
During this World Cup, she earned her 100th cap for Canada on Saturday June 20th
in a round of 16 match against Switzerland, joining a small group of Canadian
women who have accomplished this feat. The other members of the select 100-plus
cap club on the Canadian roster are Captain Christine Sinclair, Karina LeBlanc,
Diana Matheson, Erin McLeod, Sophie Schmidt, Melissa Tancredi and Rhian
Wilkinson. The dream continues, as Kyle now has her sights set on representing
Canada at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Kaylyn Kyle is a Canadian soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the
Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League. She is also a member of
Canada women's national soccer team and is a Right To Play ambassador. She is an
exceptionally talented and highly accomplished women soccer player in the world
today. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. You were
six years old when you started playing for Silverwood Rangers (as a goalkeeper).
You also attended Bishop Mahoney High School, where you helped the soccer team
win both the city and provincial titles. You as a youth player in 2008, was
noted by the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Technical Study Group. You reached the
pinnacle of success on winning an Olympic bronze medal with Canada at the London
2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament. What factors you consider were
responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Kaylyn Kyle: It sounds so cliche but it was definitely my work ethic and
drive that allowed me to reach all of my success. Another major factor was
having the family that I do. They never pushed me in to something, but supported
me in everything I decided to do. I feel, now a days a lot of parents are
pushing their kids into one sport and not allowing them to choose for themselves
what they truly want to do. In my opinion it is beyond important for kids/teens
to make there own decisions about their passion. My parents allowed me to play
many different sports and when I found my love for soccer it is was an easy
decision.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have about 101 International Caps and a Olympic bronze
medal from London 2012. The Montreal Alouettes' Marc Olivier-Brouillette and the
B.C. Lions' Adam Bighill challenged the Canadian Women's National team to kick a
CFL football 35 yards for a field goal via a video shared over social media.
Your team accepted the challenge and you posted your own video showing besting
the 35-yard challenge with a clean 45-yard score. Tell us more about this event?
Ms. Kaylyn Kyle: It was honestly just for fun. When I played professionally in
Seattle, the Seattle Seahawks showed me around their training facility and when
I asked if I could kick a few field goals they laughed. Then they said sure and
started me off at the 10 yard line. They were a bit shocked but then moved me
back further. I did get a few pointers from one of the kickers though! It was a
lot of fun and would love to do it again!
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout
routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Kaylyn Kyle: Since I am a midfielder I really try to focus on my fitness and
my change of direction. So I usually start by doing quite a bit of long distance
running 45 Minutes to 1 hour to build up my aerobic base and then once I feel I
can finish those with no problems then I start adding HIT (high intensity
training) also known as interval training!
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you
follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Kaylyn Kyle: Well I am a pescatarian. So I do really have to watch my diet
to make sure I'm getting the right amount of protein in my diet. I eat extremely
healthy although I do LOVE chips!!! Thats my one downfall but chips are
technically a potato right ? HaHa!!!
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some
kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to
your hair to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Kaylyn Kyle: Well I used to have hair extensions for the longest time but
about 8 months ago I started using the line "forever living." My sister
introduced me to it, So I use all of their products. I take a shot of aloe gel
(drink) in the morning for my hair and my skin has never felt so amazing. Since
using the product I no longer wear extensions and I no longer break out. I never
believed in beauty products much but I must say that my sister has changed my
mind about that.
As for makeup I use, I have my go to products: My foundation is by Chanel is
just goes on so smooth and you don't need a lot and it lasts forever! Then my
powder is by MAC and I'm obsessed. I get really shiny so I found the most
amazing blot powder press that I CANNOT leave the house without! Then I have
eyelash extensions so I really never have to wear makeup. Sounds like a lot of
work but I can literally roll out of bed and I'm ready!
