Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You began singing professionally after graduating from high school in Baldwin, Nassau County, New York, singing in rock bands such as Felony and Next. Signed to Arista Records, your first song to crack the top ten was the dance-pop hit “Tell It to My Heart” in late 1987. The song was an instant smash worldwide, peaking in the top five of most major markets worldwide, and achieving a peak of number one in many countries, including West Germany. You are one of the most popular vocalists of the modern age. You have enjoyed Top 10 hits in three subsequent decades, selling a combined 75 million singles and albums till now. You are a true crossover artist, someone whose popularity spans multiple generations and many different music formats. What factors you consider are responsible for your such a spectacular success ?
Ms. Taylor Dayne:
Firstly, Thank you. I was a very hungry, determined artist, I can’t tell you how the success happened in terms of all the people, radio, records and fans over the years. There are too many moments and people to name. But I will tell you hard work, and perseverance will always be number# 1 in determining someones success.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have also gained notice for your songwriting skills. Several of your gold and platinum-selling solo albums featured your own compositions, and “Whatever You Want,” a song you co-wrote for Tina Turner, became a Top 40 hit in 10 different countries in 1996. This propelled your singing career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as a singer and songwriter. Tell us something about your professional journey in the world of music?
Ms. Taylor Dayne:
I was not happy just singing, by my 3rd studio record, I had been on the pop train for 8 years and I was ready to say something personal about myself I needed to do it, I needed to express my experiences to my audience, and get it out. Songwriting was that tool. It was not very well embraced by my record company that I be a part of this process and the songs and I paid dearly for it. Literally and figuratively. But any artist will tell you that it made me work twice as hard the challenge to myself to deliver to the fans and the company expectations.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you react when your returned with 2008 release “Satisfied” that you co-wrote for the album’s lead single, “Beautiful,” which climbed to number 1 on the dance charts. It was also your 17th time cracking the Top 10 on the Billboard charts?
Ms. Taylor Dayne:
It was very validating and nice to have that success on a song you were part of the process making.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
As an actress, you are known for “Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!” (2004), “Flawless” (1999) and “Fried Green Tomatoes” (1991). Tell us your experience of working as an actress?
Ms. Taylor Dayne:
Actually all those films I was part of the soundtracks. I acted in other films and TV series, I love the collaborative process on sets and again the challenge I’m a great singer, a good actress so I have to work harder there as it’s not a muscle I use as often.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You are a gay rights activist for many years and is considered a gay icon in the gay community. You have performed at the 19th Annual Long Beach Gay Pride Festival (May 2002), you also performed the official theme song of the 2010 Gay Games, “Facing a Miracle”. Tell us more about this passion of yours?
Ms. Taylor Dayne:
