Namita Nayyar:
You have spoken about how you used a social media strategy that sky-rocketed both your fashion and music career. Tell us more about the role of social media in your career?
Saweetie:
I feel like social media is a portal that can be used for great benefits when it comes to spreading the message about your music and your brand—in my case both.
It has become a business tool for not only influencers but also for big companies. I consider myself a big company because ICY represents more than just “Saweetie” the musician, it represents all the things underneath my umbrella which includes fashion, philanthropy, beauty and all of the goals I plan to tackle later in life.
Namita Nayyar:
Three things that you love and three that you hate about social media?
Saweetie:
OK, I want to end on a positive note.
So I’ll start with all the things that I hate. I hate fake news. I hate ghost accounts that make negative comments, and three, I hate that something negative about you can go viral. Having to relive that moment and not knowing when it can come back at some point later on down the line is like having PTSD.
Three things that I love. I love that entrepreneurs, like myself, are able to create their own fan base, their own consumer base, and make a living off of social media through word of mouth. I also love the creativity that comes with social media. I like looking at other girls who are doing brand collaborations, influencers that may have a great feed and aesthetic sense and overall, being inspired by short interview clips that I come across as I use it as a great source of creativity and motivation.
Lastly, I love that social media helped successfully launch my career in music. It was the way of introducing myself to the world, like, “Hey, what’s up? It’s the ICY girl, Saweetie!”
Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share?
Saweetie:
Well, I love legs and I was an athlete since I can ever remember. I come from an athletic family. My grandfather played for the San Francisco 49ers and my uncles played football as well. My aunties ran track. We’re all really athletic. So when it comes to fitness, I love working on my legs. I think if you have good legs, you look good overall. So, I would say squats and leg presses. Even, mixing in some dance moves like squatting and dancing. I’ve been trying to practice it more and more, It’s a really good exercise!
