Namita Nayyar:
You are a leading media personality, model, Instagram sensation, mother, and a fitness icon. How do you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Sandra Lyn Nelson:
It is very challenging! I have learned to be very well organized! I have developed a schedule over the year that works well for me. I schedule everything around my workout days. All my personal care appointments such as hair, nails massage etc., all get booked around that. I plan my meals as best as I can in advance.
This helps me to stay on course with my nutrition. I have great resources who I reply upon to council me regarding the ultimate food groups that are best for me. My routine accommodates grocery shopping, meal planning and photo shoots! I make sure I block room in my schedule for my puppy and my partner as well. I feel it is a must to have a well-rounded life taking time off from the schedule for rest time when required.
Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Sandra Lyn Nelson:
I have developed a rotational system with my exercise program. I switch between arms/ abs/back and chest then rotate to legs /abs/glutes. I will then mix up the rotation to allow for a holistic approach to the development of my overall shape. Within that rotation I will have anywhere from 10 to 20 different exercises within each set that rotate to target each area that I am focusing on. I change them up regularly to keep the program different.
I never linger too long with the same set of exercises. I do have a personal trainer who has worked with me and guided me over the last three years as well. The challenge now is to sculpt targeted areas. It takes a lot of focus and patience because the gains become smaller and smaller.
I have learned that it is a marathon and not a sprint. The changes become more and more subtle. I see them by looking back at photographs taken six to twelve months ago. This is how I stay motivated.

You once said, “I eat only healthy foods, and have eliminated milk, wheat, and many carbs”. Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Sandra Lyn Nelson:
I learned several years ago how food and exercise affected my health in a positive way. I originally made changes in my diet to control my hormone swings. I started by eliminating dairy and wheat from my diet.
I hired a personal trainer to help me get into over-all better shape. I was amazing at what happened and so quickly. Within a few months I dropped close to 25 pounds and my body started to transform from my workouts.
I was highly motivated by the results. I continued to make small dietary adjustments to help myself feel better. I cut down on carbs, alcohol, fried foods, sugar and eating out. These changes coupled with a revised workout schedule, made a significant impact on my health, appearance and mental well-being.
It was a complete transformation. Now I work out 3-4 times a week and maintain a very clean diet where I cook my own foods and eat on as regular a schedule as I can. It has made a huge difference to how I feel. The monthly hormonal swings have been reduced by 90%. I also feel like I am more in control of both my physical and mental well-being.
