Fighting Diabetes, Obesity in San Antonio
Reported November 19, 2007
A new program aims to fight diabetes and obesity in San Antonio.
Today, the first “Steps to a Healthier San Antonio” sign was unveiled.
It sits in front of the Southside Lions Park on Hiawatha.
The sign lists how long the walking trail is and encourages people to walk more and eat healthier.
“We’re really trying to combat diabetes and obesity with our steps program,” said Dr. Bryan Alsip, Metro Health Assistant Director. “To do that one of the best things you can do is become physically active.
Eleven more signs will be put up at parks in the San Antonio Independent School District area.
