Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to our inspiring and budding Ice Dancers and Figure Skating girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in the field of Ice Dancing and Figure Skating?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
Remember to do what you love and love what you do. Remember whatever it is you do, do it for the right reasons. Skating and dancing evokes something very special from within and it’s always important to remember this intrinsic beauty–something you can’t get from anything else. Forget about the negligible factors that may distract you from what makes you happy and focus on the present, because the present is precious.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you feel before and after your memorable win of Gold medal Ice dancing at Ice Challenge Championship 2012 in Austria?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
The 2012-13 season was a very strong season for us, where we made successful leaps in all of our international events. Austria was the final international competition before the U.S. Championships. Prior to leaving for Austria, we felt the momentum from the previous competitions and approached it as simply another opportunity to prepare for the U.S. Championships. I have a silly side story that impacted our experience in Austria that year. I had bought new suede boots and suede protector. However, when I arrived in Austria and unpacked my bag, I realized the suede protector leaked all over my clothes and the fumes were incredible strong. I left the window open over night to air things out, but I was feeling very nauseous and sick in the morning and it didn’t go away when it was time for our first event. We had a practice in the morning before our short dance event and I was having a lot of difficulty getting through our program because I felt so sick and disoriented. I rested throughout the afternoon and competed anyway, hoping our training during the prior weeks would get us through…and it did. By the free dance event, I was back to normal and ready to attack the program, and that’s exactly what we did. I was glad to have overcome a small setback and be able to rely on our consistent training. I felt grateful and even more confident knowing that even under unfortunate circumstances, I was still able to execute what I needed to.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Tell us more about your future participation and preparation plans for 2014 Ice dancing season?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
We have not made any plans for the upcoming season yet, but we will have a meeting with our coach to assess our season first. We both have interests beyond the rink that we will take into consideration. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience in December 2012 and am looking forward to applying to medical schools.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your most important influence and motivator to your path of competitive success?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
Along the way, I have found that it takes the efforts of many people to help create something amazing. I have had so many supportive and influential people during my career and each person has contributed to our success in some way. It is obvious that my parents and brother have been my biggest supporters from the beginning. My parents have always believed in me even when I stopped believing in myself. They would always try to find the best resources for me, believing I would thrive in the right environment. Though they were extremely busy with their work, they always found time to be there for me, taking me to training camps at a young age, sitting in the rink for hours video-taping me when I was young and didn’t have a coach, and attending all of my competitions, from my very first event to now–14 years of competitions! My brother moved with me both times I relocated to pursue my ice dancing career. The first time, I was 16 and I moved to Pittsburgh for my first ice dance partner. I moved again the year after to Ann Arbor to skate with Logan. My brother has always been an amazing supporter of my skating career and my best friend.
