Lynn Kriengkrairut, American ice dancer Twice Ice Challenge champion and the 2012 U.S. national pewter medalist in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have selected a sport which is a team sport and requires a lot of cohesiveness and absolute understanding between the dance partners to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
We were fortunate that we shared the same goals and hard work ethic from the beginning. We have always been able to rely on each other to give 100% everyday. Even through rough days or difficult patches, we’ve learned to adapt to each other, assess the problems, communicate, and approach things optimistically. It hasn’t always been easy, but it is through hurdling over even the biggest obstacles together where we’ve been able to expand our abilities and surprise ourselves with what we may have once thought was impossible. I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from our career together is to enjoy every moment- see every moment as an opportunity to grow and most importantly, to be happy. Doing something I’m passionate about everyday with someone who shares the same passion has been an incredible experience. Together, we have created a beautiful journey that will not only remain a memory but will propel us into something great in the future.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
We typically skate three to four hours per day, five days per week (we used to do six times per week prior to this year). We also incorporate ballet, ballroom, and modern dancing into our training, each of which we do twice per week. We also work with a personal trainer off the ice, where we do several types of circuits of interval training that incorporates stability, strength, coordination and timing with each other, and cardiovascular endurance.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
I’ve found that eating clean has produced the best results for me. I always incorporate fruits and veggies into my meals. I avoid foods processed with chemicals or have ingredients I’m unsure about. I try to stick to animal products that were raised on a natural diet. I love almonds, macadamia nuts, pistachios, Brazil nuts, and cashews, but I always make sure that those nuts (either raw or dry roasted) and salt are the only ingredients. I love sweet potatoes for my source of carbs…and I usually top that with almond butter and cinnamon! I also love greek yogurt with fresh fruit or honey. In summary, I eat what I like and what makes me feel good and energized to make me perform at my best. I’m not too strict with myself because I still like to indulge in junk foods occasionally! (I love sweets…dark chocolate and ice cream to name a couple…)
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?
Lynn Kriengkrairut:
Thank you! I try to maintain a facial cleansing routine daily. Sometimes, when external factors change, such as the weather, my daily activities, diet or stress, my skin reflect those things and if those factors are not under my control, I change up my routine a little bit. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that your skin and hair are reflections of what is happening inside your body, so if anything seems to be going haywire, I start with incorporating more fruits, veggies, healthy fats, and basically anything antioxidant-rich into my diet if I’ve strayed from clean eating. My nighttime skin care routine usually goes something like this: gentle foaming cleanser to remove makeup and other impurities, then an exfoliant, followed by toner, followed by an anti aging serum, and then a simple moisturizer. In the morning, I usually just use toner, moisturizer, and a cc cream with SPF. I don’t really do anything special for my hair though. I think I must be lucky when it comes to that!
