Liz McClarnon is English pop singer, dancer and television presenter and member of Britain’s biggest girl band: Atomic Kitten. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
When you were in 1997, still in a secondary school, your music teacher arranged for you to take part in an audition with musician Andy McCluskey, who was aiming to create a new girl group. The group became Atomic Kitten with you being one of it’s member and they released their first record in 1999. This event in your life propelled your music career to the height where you have been at the top of the world and reached the pinnacle of success when your music albums total worldwide sales rose to 6.2 million singles and 4 million albums. What factors you consider are responsible for your such a spectacular success ?
Ms. Liz McClarnon:
Our songs were super pop and catchy, we were loud and just wanted to have fun. I think people could see that and joined us for the ride. Then later on through our careers we calmed down a bit while our fans did too. The timings worked which I have to say are a big factor in the music industry. It was the best time of my life.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Atomic Kitten have had three UK number one singles, “Whole Again”, “Eternal Flame”, and “The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling)”. They also had two UK number one albums, Right Now, and Feels So Good, both being certified double-platinum in the UK for sales of over 600,000 copies each. Tell us something about your years during this part of your professional journey in the world of music ?
Ms. Liz McClarnon:
We were so busy. It was like a whirlwind. Flying everywhere. Making videos, getting 30 mins sleep at night, in the studio, doing concerts. It has changed my life so much that even now when I have a few days off I get twitchy and need something to do. We were in our own little world and we didn’t even realise we were so successful at the time because we never stopped. It was so cool.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Atomic Kitten group reformed in 2012 as part of The Big Reunion, scoring a hit with a cover of Wizzard’s “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday”. Tell us about this endeavor of yours?
Ms. Liz McClarnon:
The Big reunion was crazy. We never thought it would be so so big. The tv show had millions and millions of viewers and the concerts sold out in 5 minutes and all the time we had so much fun and got to catch up with old friends. It was one of the easiest times of my life. It’s crazy that we nearly didn’t take part because we didn’t know whether or not it would work. I’m very glad we did.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in the world of music ?
Ms. Liz McClarnon:
In my life, it is my mother of course. She brought me and my my brother up so well and she is my rock in hard times. But in the music industry and my career, my best friend Scott is my number one motivator! I have known him since the very beginning of atomic kitten when he was the marketing manager at our record label. He was a huge part of Atomic Kitten’s success! He is now my manager and turned my whole life around a few years ago! I love him and I’m very lucky to call him my best friend!
