She was home schooled for elementary school, attended a private Christian school for middle school and attended public schools for high school. Throughout middle school and high school, she was bullied by her peers for the way she looked and acted. She was able to overcome her struggle with bullying through pageantry.
Being a contestant in a pageant required her to be healthy, fit, confident, and philanthropic. She has held the titles of Miss Teen Williamsburg, Miss American Samoa, Miss North Dakota, and Miss Virgin Islands. She was placed in the top 8 at Miss Virginia United States, top 5 at Miss United States 2012, Top 15 at Miss United States 2013 and Miss Nationwide 2014. She believes that pageants are not about winning that cash and crown, but it is about who you become in the process.
Lisa Opie is Miss Nationwide 2014. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You being crowned Miss Nationwide 2014 that propelled your professional career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of glamour. Tell us something about this fairy tale journey?
Ms. Lisa Opie: I am so thankful and blessed to have such a successful career! One thing I would like to say is that it did not come easily. I was bullied growing up and I was very insecure. One of the ways that I proved my bullies wrong was through the pageantry. They called me ugly and stupid and I wanted to prove them wrong! Now, I am in a place where I don’t even remember these bullies’ names!
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are world leading media personality, entrepreneur, model, professional host, swimsuit designer, actress, fashion Blogger and an activist. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Lisa Opie: I am very passionate about my career! Everything I do doesn’t feel like “work” to me. Time management is very important for me and everything can quickly become very hectic if I don’t manage my time wisely!
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Ms. Lisa Opie: Although I have my boring days at the gym, I love being active to stay fit. I love yoga, paddle boarding, jogging outside, and salsa dancing!
