Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You and Erin started the famous fitness blog, Fit Bottomed Girls which has now become a huge success, empowering and inspiring women all over the world. Walk us through this incredible journey and tell us how it all began?
Ms. Jennipher Walters:
Erin and I met when we were both working for a magazine publishing company in the Kansas City area. We quickly noticed the big similarities in our lives: We both lived in Lawrence, Kansas, while our boyfriends were attending graduate school, and we were both enduring a lengthy and boring 50-minute commute. We soon became carpooling buddies, and then realized that not only were we making the commute more fun and saving the planet one tank of gas at a time, we were also forming a friendship. While we’d usually talk about reality TV and work, we’d also discuss workouts. I’m more of the “health nut,” along with being a certified personal trainer, so I’d convince Erin to walk with me over lunch or try Zumba.
Funny enough, it wasn’t until Erin moved states away and after I’d overcome some of my own body image issues that we came up with the idea of a positive body image fitness blog — effectively marrying our shared love of writing and fitness. It’s crazy to look back on how it used to be just Erin and I giggling on the phone to now having an amazing third business partner Kristen Seymour, two books, four websites and about a dozen writers and editors around the country!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in your life in the FBG Team.
Ms. Jenniper Walters:
We all work from home in different cities, so a typical day involves a lot of phone calls, texts and emails! We all spend most of our time writing, editing and working with different brands on various campaigns. We also share a lot of funny videos and articles — and high-five each other for working out. (And, yep, we all make time for workouts and self care!)
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine?
Ms. Jenniper Walters:
I do a little bit of everything. I try to get to the gym for high-intensity interval training (usually involving weights) two to three times a week. Plus, I walk my dog every day, and go out for a run with my dog and my daughter in the stroller once or twice a week. I squeeze in some yoga and foam rolling here and there, too, but so wish I did it more often.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Jenniper Walters:
I follow the 80/20 rule when it comes to food. 80 percent of the time I eat really healthy stuff that makes me feel AWESOME. Then 20 percent of the time I eat whatever I want while being mindful and not have any guilt about it. It works for me.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding fitness trainers who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of fitness?
Ms. Jenniper Walters:
Get certified and always keep learning! Know that different approaches are going to work for different people. There’s no one single “right” way to be healthy. So help people to find what works for them — with a whole lot of love (because the brain usually needs as much training as the body does to be confident).
