Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have been competing in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2009 and reached the pinnacle of success by winning several medals at the World Cup events. Walk us through this spectacular journey and tell us how it all began?
Ms. Denise Herrmann:
As a young girl I was often skiing with my dad and some other kids in my hometown. I really enjoyed it. Some years later I started to participate in competitions. In those days my passion for cross country skiing was born. In 2001 I went to a special sports boarding school in Oberwiesenthal and started to train professional. In order to that I took part in my first international races. In a good symbiotic with school and sport I passed my examination (A-Levels) in 2007. I started my career as a professional athlete. In the summer of 2010 I changed my training center from Oberwiesenthal to the Bavarian village Ruhpolding. This was my current chosen life spot. From the day I started skiing professional until I made it to the Olympics in 2014 I always worked really hard on myself. I set goals and did every workout as good as possible to reach it. The progress wasn’t always easy and fast. But Step by step I made it with all my strength, trust in myself and passion from a cross country world cup skier to a girl who was able to fight for medals in world cup, world championchip and Olympic events.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share?
Ms. Denise Herrmann:
My favorites are some workouts for the whole stability of the body like crunches.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Denise Herrmann:
As an athlete it is important to choose your food well. It should be fresh and healthy. I try to optimize this part as much as I can. Cross country skiing / Biathlon are both endurance sports which require a lot of energy. After every training I eat much, especially after hard intensity workouts. It is good to calculate your energy consumption and react in your daily nutrition. If you have a small overview over your own consumption it makes it easier to be sure that you eat enough. In periods of competition it is also helpful to use additional supplements for a good balance in carbs and proteins.
