Amy Taylor is a native Californian. While spending nearly most of her life working as a published model, she also received her undergraduate degree in Berkeley, MBA in Los Angeles, and commercial pilot’s licenses in Arizona. When she’s not found in front of the camera, she’s enjoying the sunny skies flying, keeping fit at her gym in Los Angeles, or at the beach playing with her dog.
Miss Taylor has been the cover of magazines such as Maxim or Playboy (to mention a couple).
Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness talks to Amy Taylor about her spectacular journey into the modeling world.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Walk us through your incredible modelling journey so far and tell us how it all began?
Ms. Amy Taylor:
I always loved performing as a young girl, as I was in the city’s ballet company. I have also always loved fashion, so modelling seemed like a good mix of the two! To begin with at 15, it was very much just for fun; I was and still am far too short to be scouted for runway or editorial work (I was painfully rejected from several agencies, when I was a teenager!). My parents checked out photographers and modeling jobs to ensure everything was legitimate, and I started to build a resume and portfolio. It was at that point that I realized that modeling allowed me to meet interesting, creative and brilliant people, work in new, fun and exciting locations, and also make decent money from doing very little (just being honest).
However, at this point I see it as a way to set a good example on a number of fronts. Alongside modelling, I have gotten my undergraduate degree in biology and an MBA, as well as several pilot’s licenses, and I am very passionate about maintaining a fit and healthy body. I like to think young girls can see that you don’t have to limit yourself to one thing; it’s possible to excel in multiple areas of your life. I am also a strong advocate for healthy aging and pride myself on maintaining my fitness into my older modeling years, again as an example to younger girls. Basically, to me, modelling can be far more than just having your photo taken!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in your life.
Ms. Amy Taylor:
On days that I’m home, I typically wake up around 7 a.m., walk my dog, shower and dress, have breakfast and coffee, and work on the computer through lunch. After lunch I work out—weights, cardio, then yoga. I then run any needed errands and do any needed housework, and by the late afternoon/early evening I get ready for whatever plans I have in the evening with friends, clients, family, or by myself. I get home from those plans late at night, walk the dog again, and go to sleep before midnight.
On days that I’m out of town, the day can vary: I might spend the entire day at a spa, in nature, being a tourist, trying new foods, or just stay in bed by myself or even better, with someone special (wink)!
