Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did the business start and what’s the secret to your success?
Ms. Amy Secret:
The business started when I was homeless with three children after a messy divorce. I needed to sort out my image to get a job or start a business. I could fix my hair, put make up on, and buy cheap clothes but I couldn’t afford porcelain veneers to make my teeth look acceptable. I was unhappy with my teeth, so searched online for something to help and saw that in the USA you could buy a product called a “flipper”- girls wear these to make their teeth look perfect for beauty pageants. I thought it was the perfect way to hide my crooked teeth for job interviews! My dentist couldn’t whiten my teeth anymore as I have thin enamel and I couldn’t afford braces to straighten them. Rather than buy a flipper from the USA, I found a lab in the UK who could make a better product for me from my own impressions and that’s how Secret Veneers was born! We now ship our product Worldwide.
The secret to my success is mind set. Life is only as good as your mind set – it’s important to have a POSITIVE mind because what we attract into our life is a direct reflection of our energetic state.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
As well as being an entrepreneur/CEO, we hear you’re also a mother to eight children and a charity ambassador. Tell us more about the charity – and how do you manage to juggle everything without getting stressed?
Ms. Amy Secret:
I have 3 children and my fiancé has 5 children, so our home is full! Charity is very important to me, I teach my children to give back and get involved in charity work – life is like a boomerang, if you give good energy out, it comes back to you. I have a charity campaign called #smileback which is run on Instagram in conjunction with Secret Veneers. What we do is give free veneers to anyone who we feel could not otherwise afford them, but they must have suffered from some kind of hardship. For example, we just helped a lady who had her two front teeth knocked out as a result of domestic violence, she can now smile confidently and has just got a new job. We also helped a gentleman who has a brain tumour and had to have some teeth removed due to radiotherapy, so we gave him a new smile. We gave another lady a free set of veneers to boost her confidence as she lost all her hair after chemotherapy, she has since won her fight against breast cancer. All we ask in return is that they pay the kindness forward.
I am currently working in partnership with https://samarpanfoundation.org/ donating as many smiles as I can to children in India. We can’t physically donate a toothbrush or our veneers because the children in India are so desperate they would sell the items to feed themselves, so we are donating a smile by giving them a year’s education instead. You can see more on our website www.secretveneers.com In regards to stress, how can I feel stressed when I’m working with disadvantaged children/people like this on a daily basis! I feel truly grateful and know how lucky I am, so it would be wrong to get stressed!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a typical day in your life…
Ms. Amy Secret:
I jump out of bed at 7am and the school run routine starts! It’s so hectic that I think of this as my gym routine!! I don’t need to physically go to the gym because I run up and down the stairs 20 times in the morning looking for my children’s socks, gym kits, hairbands, etc! I have to drive half an hour to the schools and drop everyone off, and then I head to the office where I work non-stop until 3pm. Just after 3pm, I pick-up all the children and head home where I help them do hours of homework, then I cook dinner for the family – it’s not very glam! I always have my phone in my hand working, but I make sure we all eat dinner together and talk as a family every evening. I then bath each child individually and this is our one-on-one time to discuss any worries or concerns they may have. I put the children to bed at 8pm and continuing working until 11pm and then crash in to bed.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You are in great shape for 36 – what does your fitness regime involve?
Ms. Amy Secret:
My fitness regime involves being a mother and running multiple businesses, I do not have a cleaner or nanny and take care of everything myself, therefore life is very hectic, I do not stop. I STAY ACTIVE and because I’m always on the go, it keeps me trim.
