Alexis DeJoria: Exceptionally Talented Professional Drag Car Racer Reveals her Success mantra "Have a passion and love for what you do and never give up"
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you follow a special diet or strict menu
to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Alexis DeJoria: I do my best to eat the healthiest I
possibly can while on the road. I drink a lot of fresh-pressed
vegetable juices, and I eat a lot of salads and healthy, clean
proteins. Of course I have my cheat days as well, but for the
most part I eat very healthy.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do
you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and
glowing, and what you do to your hair to make it look so
stunning?
Ms. Alexis DeJoria: My hair, that's an easy one. I use my
father's company's products- Paul Mitchell- so that's what makes
my hair so shiny and healthy. As far as taking supplements, I
take a variety of vitamins- everything from B complex, to a
multivitamin, to Vitamins C, D, E, and Omega oils.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you have any advice or motivational words
for girls looking to become professional race car drivers?
Ms. Alexis DeJoria: In NHRA Drag Racing, there are more females
competing than in any other form of motorsports. Almost half of
the Junior Dragster league is made up of females, so in this
sport, I don't think it's a matter of getting girls interested,
I think it's more about keeping them motivated enough to want to
stick with it. You have to take the good with the bad, you have
to know when it's time to take a break and come back and try it
again, but you just never give up. It's not about giving up at
all, but sometimes if you're doing the same thing over and over
again and expecting different results, it's just not going to
happen. It's all about being headstrong, and having a passion
and love for what you do.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel before and after when in
2014, you became the first woman ever to make a sub-four second
run, with a 3.997-second ET In Pomona, Calif. during the NHRA
Winternationals?
Ms. Alexis DeJoria: That was a huge run for me. Being the first
woman to do it, even though there are only two of us that are
competing in the Funny Car class right now, but there have been
plenty of other female Funny Car drivers prior to myself. After
we ran that three second run, it just came so much easier to get
the next one. They come pretty consistently now, when the
conditions are right. We've come so far in less than a year.
We've made leaps and bounds.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: During the month of October, your team
partners with local mobile mammography units and brings them to
racetracks offering free breast cancer screenings on-site to
female ticketholders. You also raised awareness for Pancreatic
Cancer by partnering with Wage Hope during the month of
November. Such associations are all dear to your heart. Tell us
how you have been able to achieve and quench your thirst of
giving back to the society through such endeavors?
Ms. Alexis DeJoria: I believe it's very important in my position
as a public figure to bring awareness to certain causes dear to
me. There is so much that we can promote in our positions as
professional race car drivers and quite recently we did that by
providing 115 mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness month in
October, and by raising awareness of Pancreatic Cancer during
the month of November. Any time we can show respect and shine a
light on an important cause is a great thing.
