Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You were recently a part of the 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Casting. Share with us your experience getting this wonderful opportunity. How was your experience?
Ms. Afiya Bennett:
Casting for Sports Illustrated is one of the most nerve wrecking most exhilarating experiences I have gone through. The modeling industry has a way of making models feel less than at times. Whether it be your shoulders are too broad, your hips or breast are too big, you’re not the right complexion, or now “you don’t have a big enough following”. Whether it be one thing or another, Sports Illustrated has created a brand where they embrace the beauty of curves, body confidence, and most of all self love. I am more than honored that they would even consider me to be a part of their brand.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You share your everyday life, health tips, events, etc., on your blog afiyabennettblog.com. It is actually a great way for your fans to connect with you. What motivated you to start this blog?
Ms. Afiya Bennett:
Ironically, starting my blog started as a way to appease my former agent and it has transcended into so much more than that. It has become my tool for inspiring the next little girl behind me and showing them that if I can do it so can they, that their dreams are indeed possible. It has also become a place that I myself can document growth and look at as a place of encouragement. My blog shows me “wow look how far I have come”, but still igniting the fire under me and say “look how far I have to go.”
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Being a model, fitness must be of utmost importance in your life. Unfold the top 5 exercises you would rate as important as a part of one’s fitness regime? What would be your input for women urging for a model-type body?
Ms. Afiya Bennett:
My body is so tricky, if I work out too much I get too bulky and big but if I don’t work out then I don’t have any way to burn the food that I eat or maintain my abs. For me, working out twice a week and maintaining a great diet is the key to my fitness success. My top five exercises for one’s fitness regime is definitely 15 to 30 minutes of cardio on the precor, leg raises to target your lower abs and the little pudge on your tummy thats so hard to get off, Russian twists, side crushes, and side planks to really target the side abs. I love a long lean feminine but toned look so I try to focus more on side abs and lower abs more than the top. For women urging the model- type body, I would tell them to embrace their body and don’t get fixated on what you see in the magazines because it is always photoshopped. Focus on being their best and most importantly being healthy.
