Adelinde Cornelissen is a dutch dressage rider. She is the winner of silver medal in 2012 London Olympic Games, 2010 World Champion and 2011 winner of World Cup. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Your love with horses and ponies began at the age of 6 years and on Ayesha, a small pony you became Dutch Champion twice in de Z2 dressage and later propelled your professional career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of Equestrian and reached the pinnacle of success when in 2011 World Cup at Leipzig you won the Gold and in 2012 London Olympic Games you won Silver in Individual dressage. Tell us about this professional journey of success?
Ms. Adelinde Cornelissen:
For me horses have always been a hobby.. it still is actually… even though it became professional… I used to be an english teacher and as a hobby I did horse riding… In 2008 we got into the Olympic Squad for Beijing and then I decided to quit being a teacher and pick up the riding professionally…
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have selected a sport which requires a lot of cohesiveness and absolute understanding between your team, your horse and you to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?
Ms. Adelinde Cornelissen:
I guess all sports are about understanding , being the best team! Because in my opinion one can never do everything all by him/herself. you always need to have a team around you.. In horse riding the team is of course also with your horse, which is all about understanding…
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Ms. Adelinde Cornelissen:
I do a lot of physical training myself as well,.. If I want my horse to be in top shape, I find I cannot be the weakest link! I do all kinds of excerises for balance, coordination, concentration… Besides of course my running program to stay fit. Boxing is one of the things I love doing, but with my coach Tjalling van den Berg and mental coach John van Apeldoorn we practice everything… boxing, trampoline, beam, core stability, juggling, .. they come up with exercises to get me out of my comfort zone, my coaches then see how I deal with the new situation…
