Homemade Hair Treatment Options
In order to maintain the
health and
beauty of your
hair, it is important to
keep hair properly
conditioned
and hydrated. While there are a large number of
treatments available for purchase at drugstores and
salons, many hair masks and
moisture treatments can be made inexpensively at home. These mixtures provide a
more natural means of
taking care of your hair.
To begin with you need to understand the present condition of your hair.
Extremely dry hair tends to absorb more moisture, but your individual results
may vary greatly. Before trying a mask, apply a small amount of the mixture to a
test strand in order to determine if the treatment is right for your hair.
Mediterranean Hair Mask
-
Massage a teaspoon of olive oil into the scalp for about two to three minutes.
-
Then brush through the hair.
-
Wrap it in a towel for thirty minutes and then
shampoo.
Fruit Hair Mask
To make a mask, combine one-half
banana, one-half avocado, and a small amount
of cantaloupe or other melon. Blend fruit thoroughly with a few tablespoons of
plain, unflavored yogurt. Smooth evenly through hair and allow the mixture to
sit for ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing thoroughly. The yogurt and avocado
moisturize and condition the hair while the cantaloupe and banana encourage
shine and manageability.
Fruits mixtures can be used to enhance the
health of your hair. The citric
acid in many fruits adds shine to hair, while
antioxidants help
protect hair
from harmful environmental toxins.
Note: if your hair is blonde or light brown, avoid dark fruit such as
berries or grapes that can stain light hair.
Sun Streaks
Before heading outside, slick your hair into a ponytail coated with leave-in
conditioner. Then coat lightly over the entire head. Youll be amazed at how
absolutely sun-kissed your hair looks after thirty minutes of "sun" treatment.
