Women Fitness President catches up with Whitney, water skier about her love for the sport and reason behind her success.
Namita Nayyar:
You are an EIGHT time world champion in water skiing, According to you “From the moment my feet fit into a pair of water skis, I only had one thought: to be a world champion one day.” What attracted you towards skiing as a sport, if you were to sum up in few words?
Whitney McClintock:
Family Legacy. My Uncle Joel was World Champ in ’79; my Aunt Judy was World Champ in ’85 & ’95. My parents, Jeff & Sherron had me on skis before my 2nd birthday & while I don’t remember, apparently I was always smiling.

Namita Nayyar:
Having won FOURTEEN Pan American Games medals, how does it feel looking back at the journey?
Whitney McClintock:
Pan Am Games medals are some of the most coveted titles in my sport since we are not in the Olympics. I have been blessed to be able to compete at the last four Pan Am Games. In Rio, I was only 17 years old and I came home with 2 Gold medals and 1 silver- twelve years later, I was one of the veterans competing in Lima; and I truly have a journey to reflect on. I have grown in to the woman I am today because of my team, my coaches & the experiences I have had competing all over the world. I have accomplished everything I could have ever dreamed of. And now I get to finish my career enjoying every moment.
Namita Nayyar:
“The overwhelming feeling of becoming a world champion still brings me to tears.”. Were your eyes always set on this goal?
Whitney McClintock:
Some of my earliest memories on the ski dock included me telling people that I wanted to be a World Champion one day. I became a World Champion for the first time at the age of 19 and to this day, being a World Champion is the thing I strive for most. The moment I became a world champion for the first time is still one of my most precious memories – it was the validation for my lifetime of dedication to this beautiful sport God blessed me with.
Namita Nayyar:
How do you like to kick start your day. What does your first meal of the day comprise of?
Whitney McClintock:
My favorite way to start my day is with a protein smoothie bowl topped with mixed berries, granola & dark chocolate chips =) When I don’t have as much time, I just make a blended iced coffee protein shake & run out the door.
Namita Nayyar:
Before kicking off skiing training, what are the key points a beginner needs to keep in mind? 5 key essentials.
Whitney McClintock:
I would recommend finding a great coach who can get you started right. But lots of water skiers get started at the cottage. To get up on two skis for the first time, 1) make sure your arms stay locked straight and 2) you stay tucked up in a ball (like you are doing a cannon ball); when the boat starts to pull you up out of the water, 3) stand up super slowly (still keeping your arms straight) & 4) make sure your posture is tall while 5) keeping your knees bent slightly (and arms still locked straight). *ALSO make sure someone in the boat is taking photos & videos to post on social media (tag me @whitmcclintock on instagram)!!
Namita Nayyar:
Three components that are a must in a fitness regime to prevent injury? 5 exercises to build full body strength and can be followed even while travelling?
Whitney McClintock:
The components of a fitness regime that are most important to me are cardio, strength & mobility. My routine is 20-30 minutes of cardio (rowing machine or stationary bike). Then I love doing lightly weighted 1) Jefferson Curls 2) Single Leg Dead Lifts 3) Kettle Bell Swings 4) Hanging Knee Raises 5) Banded Rotator Cuff series (Cross Over Symmetry).
Namita Nayyar:
As a sportswoman, what skincare and hair care routine do you follow to combat the stress of the sport?
Whitney McClintock:
My skin has never been happier since I started using the RenuAdvanced skin care line by ASEA. Its all natural, light & smells great too!
My hair care routine is less than optimal- since I am in the water all the time, my hair is wet most of my life so I don’t like washing it when its almost dry. I recently started using an all natural cleansing conditioner every 3rd day and I use arrowroot powder in between as a dry shampoo if I need it to look fresh.
Namita Nayyar:
Social media has become a huge platform to connect with like-minded people across the globe. How has it helped you in building your brand?
Whitney McClintock:
I really enjoy connecting on social media with fans, old friends & brands. It is a great way to build a reputation by answering simple questions for people. I really love getting to know women on social media who love to waterski- often times these women come to ski with me when I host “Women’s Weeks” at my husband’s ski school in Orlando, FL. Through my posts, I mostly keep people informed about how I am doing in competitions, while representing my sponsors and my lifestyle the best I can. I try to represent life on the water, happiness/inspiration & “living your dreams”!
Namita Nayyar:
Resolutions or goals for 2020? Motivational quote you live by?
Whitney McClintock:
In 2020, I look forward to focusing much of my energy on my favorite event- slalom skiing. If there is one piece of my career that I am missing, it is the World Record. I tied it back in 2012, but I want to own it! I am dreaming big dreams and believing that everything is possible with God! (Matt 19:26).
My quote that I came up with in my freshman year of university is: “Go for what your mind wants & don’t give up until your heart is satisfied” – I am not meant to have everything I want; but this thought process takes me on a journey towards something I truly desire to accomplish. My heart will only be satisfied when I have accomplished what God designed for me.
Namita Nayyar:
You also work part-time as a real estate agent, how did this endeavor of yours come into being?
Whitney McClintock:
I purchased my first home when I was 19 years old, and then parents, brother & I all purchased another home in the next 5 or so years ALL with the same Real Estate Agent! I played a major role in the process of every purchase my family made & it sparked my interest in the possibility of being a Realtor one day. When Matt and I were recently engaged he encouraged me to get my license because he thought I would be great at it & we often have people come to the ski school who have an interest in purchasing a vacation home in Orlando. Being the nerd that I am, I really enjoyed the online real estate course & got my license right before Matt & I got married. I really enjoy doing home searches & helping my buyer get the right price for the right property. In 2019 I was able to put my Real Estate career on hold to focus on becoming a world champion on the water again…and now that the season is over, I am able to open my door as a Realtor again. It is a great balance for me & I am excited about my future in Real Estate.
