Namita Nayyar:
From an athlete and World Champion to coach and mentor. Walk us through your spectacular journey about how you were first introduced to softball?
Valerie Arioto:
When I was young, I played softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and water skied. Although I loved all of these sports, softball stuck because the community around the sport. We would play in league games with everyone from my home town and then have BBQ parties after. It was like a family. From here I continued to get opportunities to play at higher levels as my career went on, but I still continued to play because of the community around the sport and for my love of the game. To this day, these are still the same reason I continue to play!
Namita Nayyar:
You are best known for your tremendous success as a member of the USA Women’s Softball Team, winning medals in four WBSC World Championships. Tell us one of the most memorable moments from these Championships?
Valerie Arioto:
Although I can’t narrow it down to one memorable moment, the aspect that I will never forget is my teammates. All of the wins and games I have played in have been so memorable because of the amazing women I get to play alongside. We have travelled to some beautiful places and have competed in high level play together, and I can’t wait to make more memories on and off the field!
Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in your life.
Valerie Arioto:
My morning routine is essential to me and a way for me to start my day off grounded. I always start with morning coffee and a hearty breakfast, usually taking what time I have in the morning to journal or just get my mind right. I usually do a couple workouts of exercise and softball depending on the day, but I always try to do at least one active thing a day. And then I spend time with loved ones!
