Valeria Bonalume is twice Italian Pole Dance champion, winner of numerous awards in pole dancing. She is exceptionally talented and accomplished pole dancer. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You were 3 years old , when you were enrolled in a course of Rhythmic Gymnastic. For next 10 years you trained and competed all over Italy. At the age of 17 you discovered dance and attended the renown “Italian Professional Dance School (SPID)” in Milan. In 2010, you discovered Pole dance and trained to obtain the National Certificate CSEN instructor level 4 at Pole Dance Academy. This was the catalyst that made you reach the pinnacle of success in pole dancing where you stood 1st at Italian Pole Championship 2011. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
There are many factors that brought me there but I think that, above all, it’s my determination and the willing to never give up in spite of the difficulties or defeats and the strong belief in my dreams. And then the humility, meant as knowing our own limits, and the hard work without trampling on other people. I believe that strength and passion can get you in.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How has the Italian Professional Dance School (SPID) three-year course of study in dance, singing and acting that you took and then you graduated as a Terpsichorean opera and dance instructor, helped you in innovating your own mesmerizing style of pole dancing. Elaborate?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
The Dance School has been fundamental. While I was there I put the basis and started my artistic transformation and growth that took shape during the work experience. Since the beginning I have started teaching dance and I have been auditioning a lot, and among all the auditions I thank mostly the ones that didn’t go well (known as “kick in the teeth”) that taught me not to give up in spite of the regret.
Now I’ve got all the skills and instruments I need to continue my research in a more conscious way. My background allows me to express freely all the emotions I want to share and the world I belong to. My body, my soul and my heart turn into words thanks to dance.
As I was saying my journey is still long. In order to be a professional that will have a future and doesn’t pass as the trend ends, it’s necessary to put yourself on the line and work hard and seriously. I truly thank my mother as well who enrolled me to the rhythmic gymnastics course when I was 4 years old and gave me a cello as a gift when I was 6 and always gave me the chance to follow my dreams.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
]What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
I train daily and, with my return to competitions, I understood the importance of having a different training rather than just the pole one, in order to have a complete preparation. On one side I practice crossfit that helps me in specific muscular training and allows me to balance the eventual lacks that I might have.
On the other side, when I train on the pole I alternate exercises that are totally acrobatic and others that are totally artistic. My objective is to make all my moves looking simple to do even if it’s not and in order to do so, it’s necessary to train more than a lot!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
Honestly I don’t take a particular diet but I can say that I’m an healthy person and I’m really careful to what I eat. I prefer light food and cooked in healthy ways (steamed, not too much oil, etc.) and basically I try to listen to my body…It knows what it needs.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding pole dancing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of pole dancing?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
My advice is to work hard! My advice is to stop talking about things and act to make them true, to be patient and not in a hurry to reach a goal and try to appreciate the journey and the difficulties along the way. If you’re working honestly, all the satisfaction won’t be late.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you feel before and after standing 1st at the Italian Pole Championship 2012?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
To win the second time it has been wonderful, even if the first thing I said to myself has been: “where could have I done better?” I always expect more from myself. Maybe this is the incentive to do better and improve, but I’m learning to judge less myself and to be more tolerant!
Each competition it’s a challenge with yourself. It bares you…before going on the stage a lot of emotions prevail, the heart beats so fast and you try to keep calm…you have a few minutes to show all the job, training and sacrifices you’ve been doing so far…and then…you think straight away to the next one!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive pole dancing?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
It’s not easy to give this role to one only person…I think that all the people who believed in me, sometimes even more than myself, and drove me not to give up have been important for my career. I’m feeling so supported and loved. Maybe this is because I love so much what I do and this comes around. Artists live for this, it’s an energy exchange… I’m not asking to be understood, but loved.
I pick the occasion to thank everybody: both the ones who support me and who don’t. It’s also because of them that I find everyday the courage and strength to stand up and raise again, on my own.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Tell us about the events that led you to win the champion pair of POLE GYM 2013?
Ms. Valeria Bonalume:
My partner, who is a professional acrobat, and I, we decided to compete and in two only months he had to learn everything but it has been good fun and a great success, I would say! The fact of having worked together for other shows and being both of us professional has been decisive for the victory.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?
