ToshaMakia is a full time model with an amazing success story. ToshaMakia is a familiar face in the Entertainment Industry. Receiving publications such as The Source Magazine “Dime Piece” section, The New York Post “One of the 50 Sexiest Single Latinas in New York City”. She later was presented with the opportunity of starring in radio. That’s when Toshamakia truly found her calling, her voice has been heard by thousands from Connecticut’s Hot 93.7, to Philly’s 100.3 The Beat, Sirius39/XM65 Backspin Radio “Ladies First with Monie Love”, to North Carolina’s 102 Jamz Wild Out Wake Up Show.
Tosha woke up one day and was having chronic back pains and they were getting worse by the day. She finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae, two bulging discs, and bursitis in her hip. A number of different scenarios played in her from her past abusive relationship, to posture, to her getting off the couch one day and hearing a pop. Tosha was scheduled for back surgery on May 8, 2013.
ToshaMakia was not able to walk for over a year and even though she still was able to perform her radio duties. The radio station at the time decided to let her go. Tosha immediately went into a deep depression; no job overweight at 5’7 220 labs. Tosha needed help from her mother and sixteen year old daughter to bathe and clothe her. To top it off Tosha’s physician had diagnosed her with high blood pressure and was on the verge of diabetes.
July 3, 2013 she started working out she motivated herself to get up every morning and never missed a worked out. Tosha’s doctor advised her not to exercise as much due to her back surgery. But to everyone’s surprise in just one year she lost 96lbs and was off of her medication. Now Tosha is able to run outside with her boys who are 6 and 3, and her 17 year old daughter enjoys the time they spend together. She now has a mental and spiritual change and can now walk past a mirror, stop and admire what she sees. Tosha still has the same motivation every morning that she had on July 3, 2013
Every day Tosha pushes herself to go to the gym and train and even when she is away from the gym. She is an inspiration not only to her family but also her peers and business partners. Just like a caterpillar sheds its layers, that is exactly what Tosha has done. Now weighing 129 lbs she feels more and more like a butterfly. Free to be herself and freeing herself from all the sickness that was once taking over her life.
Now Tosha is a certified personal trainer and motivates and trains others all over the world via telephone, social media and more. Just like her story has kept her alive she wants to tell the world her story in hopes of inspiring other great women that share the same experiences such as: obesity, depression, and domestic violence.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were selected by The New York Post as “One of the 50 Sexiest Single Latinas in New York City”. You have a career in the entertainment industry with being doing Radio Shows and as fashion and glamour model. Tell us something about this successful professional journey?
Ms. ToshaMakia: I originally started out singing, I may be stepping back into that but Radio was an opportunity that came while having an on air interview regarding my single. Back then I was in a very unhealthy relationship and I wanted to be closer to my daughter. During my interview the Program director thought I had a great personality and ask if I’d ever consider radio, I thought about it for a few months and later I took on the challenge of radio & fell in love with it! Being on tour & performing has blessed me with the opportunity of radio and radio has blessed me with the opportunity of inspiring and motivating other people. Uplifting other women and making people laugh by sharing my pain in a bad relationship, my opinions of the music industry, talent, gossip, and celebrities.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are leading media personality, model and radio show host. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. ToshaMakia: It’s not easy but I love every moment if it. I have a strict schedule & on my down days I’m sure to handle all the extras. I remember not being as busy after my back surgery so I promised myself once I was able to walk I’d never complain. I’m a mother, a role model, a Radio/TV personality, a trainer, and a life Coach. I love my busy schedule and I love the example I am for my family, friends, and fans.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Ms. ToshaMakia: I do a lot of heavy lifting. Due to my back surgery I started off building around my back area. I always thought cardio was running but I’ve learned lifting does that as well. In my year transformation I can count on one hand how many times I ran. I feel stronger and unstoppable, my transformation has blessed me in many different ways.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. ToshaMakia: I look at food differently now, I don’t allow my tongue to get its way anymore lol. I eat fish, chicken, veggies, unsalted nuts, and different fruits. I don’t fry my food anymore; I steam, bake, or broil. Adjusting my diet to eat clean is a big part of my transformation. Being Puerto Rican and being in a household that eats rice, beans and all sorts of yummy Spanish food, it definitely was a huge change for me but I love the results much more than food.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?
Ms. ToshaMakia: Thank you. I’ve always used toothpaste to clean my face to be quite honest. Not only do I love avocados with my food, I love to condition my hair with it as well. Coconut oil is another favorite for my hair and skin. In the hot summer months I keep conditioner in my hair on curly days. For my skin I love having warm water with lemon and coconut oil on my skin after showers. I see the difference in my skin and it helps create a beautiful glow.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us about your journey and experience on spectacular weight loss of 91lbs from 220bs to 129lbs?
Ms. ToshaMakia: Last year 2013 I was very depressed, I had lost my job, and had decided to get back surgery. After surgery I was told I couldn’t work out till July 2014. I weighed over 220lbs. I was tired of medication and steroids. I felt like I wanted to give up on life. I told God if I could ever walk properly I’d work out and get myself back to where I once was after the birth of my 1st child. During that time I mentally prepared myself for a huge transformation and knew that this was my last shot at life. For me, my children, and my career. This motivated me to start training July 3rd, 2013 .
I battled and fought to get up every morning this helped me to become stronger and I also followed a strict diet. After a few months I completely stopped taking all of medications on my own. It felt like I went through a withdrawal being on pains meds for almost 2 years of my life. I noticed as long as I trained and pushed myself every day I didn’t need the meds. The light pain the doctor told me I’d live with in my back was now masked by soreness from training and I loved it. Once I stopped the medications I noticed the weight began to feel like it just fell off and in a years’ time I lost 96 lbs. My skin began to tighten and I began to live again.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel on being selected by publications such as The Source Magazine “Dime Piece” section, The New York Post “One of the 50 Sexiest Single Latinas in New York City”?
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding fashion model girls, who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to the ladder of success in the field of modeling?
Ms. ToshaMakia: Follow your dreams even though it may seem hard. Write it out, plan for it, and be prepared when the opportunity presents itself. Network and never ever give up, never allow one person’s opinion stop you. Always remember to give yourself credit for how far you have come. Enjoy the big and the small moments, we all have a purpose in life. We all deserve to be happy and feel free. Learn to think of things more positively and you’ll see a change in people you attract and in your blessings.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that does the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?
Ms. ToshaMakia: Yes it played a huge role in my journey. I asked God for guidance and strength every step of the way. My niece told me I was pretty but prayed that I was happy in my own skin and that pushed me to do more. My kids were sad because I didn’t have the energy to play with them due to my weight.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have done bold photo shoots. How you are so body confident and advice to your compatriots?
Ms. ToshaMakia: I’ve always been very confident. There was a time in my life where I was broken due to an abusive relationship. I always told myself if I got out of that situation I’d allow myself to live, love and to learn. When I allowed myself to heal after that relationship. I found beauty in confidence. It’s another beautiful “thing” in my life that saved me and helped me see more in myself.
