American Athlete Tori Bowie produced a sensational run in the final of the 100m to win gold narrowly beating Marie-Josee Ta Lou. Bowie looked in good form during the semi-finals and although Ta Lou got off to the better start she came back superbly to win in a time of 10.85s.
The finish couldn’t have been closer but a fantastic dip on the line gave Bowie the victory over the impressive Ta Lou who will still be thrilled with her silver medal and her time of 10.86s. I never give up until I’m over the line,” Bowie said. “Ta Lou went away fast but she always is. It didn’t bother me and I just kept pumping my legs and arms until the finish.”The shock of the night was that Olympic champion Elaine Thompson was nowhere as she started poorly and simply couldn’t recover, ending in fifth. Thompson was expected to win even if Bowie and fourth-placed Murielle Ahoure were mentioned as potential challengers. However just like compatriot Usain Bolt last night she couldn’t live up to her pre-race billing.
Thompson, who had looked in fine form in the heats and won on the same track in trainers one month ago, was at a loss to explain her defeat.
She competed collegiately for the University of Southern Mississippi and was a two-time NCAA champion, winning indoors and outdoors in 2011. She holds the school cords for the long jump and was also NCAA runner-up outdoors in 2012. She came runner-up in the long jump at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and represented her country at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Pisgah High School and Southern Miss alum Tori Bowie ran the fastest first round time for the 100 meter dash in the history of the IAAF World Championships in 2015. Bowie began competing in track and field professionally in 2013. In June 2014 she set two new personal records in events 100 m dash & 200 m dash at IAAF Diamond League Championship.
She continued to shine at the start of 2014, setting indoor bests of 7.14 seconds for the 60 m dash and clearing 6.95 m (22 ft 91⁄2 in) for the long jump in Naperville, Illinois.
Tori competed in the Adidas Grand Prix event in Randle’s Island, New York and placed first in the BMW Women’s 100m race with a time of 11:07. Bowie ran 10.91 as the top time in the semifinal at 2014 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Bowie won in 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to earn a spot in the 2015 World Championships in Athletics – Women’s 100 meters where she earned a bronze medal.

Tori Bowie is an exceptionally talented Track and Field Athlete. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You were born in Sandhill, Mississippi and attended Pisgah High School, where you began competing in track for the school. You won two state high school championships in the 100 m dash, 200 m dash and the long jump, as well as three state titles in the 4x100m relay. You went on to become a world class sprinter, specializing in the long jump, 60, 100 and 200-meter run. You reached the pinnacle of success at the 2015 IAAF Championship in Beijing where you stood 3rd in 100 m in 10.86 seconds. What factors do you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Tori Bowie: A wonderful supporting team and determination. To achieve any goal in life, you must focus and work consistently towards that goal to ensure, not necessarily success but progress.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you might like to share?
Ms. Tori Bowie: 5 days a week workout for 5 hours per day. Weight room training and track workout which consists of a 5 minute jog, light stretches, 4-6 strides and a varied track workout.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow in order to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Tori Bowie: During training I try to stay away from fried and all sugar related foods.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding girl athletes who are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in the field of women athletics?
Ms. Tori Bowie: Be patient…and persistent. Allow yourself to make mistakes, but also be humble enough to correct those mistakes.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel before and after your memorable win in 100 meters at 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Hayward Field, University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon in 10.81 seconds ?
Ms. Tori Bowie: Before the race I was nervous and anxious…because I wanted to win but I could not predict the outcome. After, I felt like I had finally accomplished my goal of becoming the USA Outdoor Champion in the 100 meters.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You in 2012 broke your jaw in a non-track accident and was unable to compete. In 2014 Prefontaine Classic you won the 200 meters in 22.18 seconds but tore your right hamstring in late August that year. Later at the U.S. Track and Field Championships you won the 100 meters with a time of 10.81 seconds. How you were able to overcome this physical injury/setback and what advice you can give to the fellow sports person in a similar situation?
Ms. Tori Bowie: I had to keep reminding myself that other athletes had experienced the same injury before and overcame, and I had to be patient and let the healing process take its course. I had to learn patience.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You won the long jump title at the 2011 NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship with school record mark of 6.64 m (21 ft 91⁄4 in). Elaborate your experience on this exceptional performance?
Ms. Tori Bowie: Thankful for the opportunity to compete and win a national championship. I always felt previously I would come up short in my meets, but to actually win was a great accomplishment.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: The Conference USA named you its 2010-2011 Female Athlete of the Year. You are winner of 100 meters US USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. What responsibility these awards and winnings bestow upon you in your future efforts and activities in the field of athletics?
Ms. Tori Bowie: It’s definitely more responsibility…before the mentioned achievements no one had expectations from me, but since gaining new titles there is more pressure to excel higher and instead of being the hunter…I’m now the hunted.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your biggest influence and motivation in your path to success?
Ms. Tori Bowie: My Dad. He expects greatness and pushes me to always want more..be more..and expect more from myself.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have won in 100 meters at 2014 Herculis Monaco IAAF Diamond League Track and Field Athletics Meet in spectacular time of 10.80 seconds. Tell us more about this race and your personal best performance?
Ms. Tori Bowie: I had mixed emotions…excited…I felt like I could conquer anything after the race. I was extremely overwhelmed! I was really shocked and in awe…I knew I was ready , but I wasn’t expecting those results that early in the season. My goal up to that point was to always get to the 10.80 mark, so I felt accomplished but at the same time scared because now I had to set a new time goal…which meant preparing myself for a different training routine and a different mental frame of mind.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?
Ms. Tori Bowie: Yes I do. I’m always thankful and I feel very blessed to be able to showcase the talent that God has given me.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?
Ms. Tori Bowie: We only have one body…and you should treat it like gold! Being healthy doesn’t mean the same to everyone. Do whatever makes YOU feel good and powerful!.. That’s healthy to me!
