The daughter of a dance instructor, Diana Ephlin, Anderson trained in dance from an early age in Noblesville, Indiana. She initially hoped to become a professional dancer in New York City. After a 40 lb. weight gain during her first year in New York, Anderson switched her focus to weight loss/fitness training as a career. Tracy has gym locations in Los Angeles, New York City, The Hamptons, and London and has a complete DVD collection for at-home training.
She also recently launched her Pregnancy Project workout DVD collection, providing women with safe and effective fitness routines during the pre-and-postnatal periods.
She may go on location with Gwyneth Paltrow and travel on tour with Madonna, but trainer to the stars Tracy Anderson, 34, says helping regular women achieve their personal goals has always been at the heart of her enterprise. She knows that by influencing the way Hollywood looks at itself, she also influences the way women around the world see themselves. That is a large responsibility for a woman who once battled her own insecurities, but one the petite trainer with the vivacious personality is more than ready to take on.
Anderson’s climb toward the top of the male-dominated fitness industry, one often besotted with bogus workouts and diets, has not been as smooth as her moves on the floor — or in the air. After she gained 30 lb. (13.6 kg) during her freshman year at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina took a drastic turn. Her frustration with her changing body caused her to seek answers. The research she began more than 12 years ago is the reason for her company’s success. Using the knowledge she gained about human anatomy and the way different muscles work and respond to exercise, Anderson opened a small studio near her hometown in Noblesville, Ind., in 2002. (This was after the failure of a basketball-and-dance facility for children that she opened with her then husband Eric Anderson, a New York Knicks forward.) There, she began designing what became the foundation of the Tracy Anderson Method, a high-energy customized cardio workout that combines elements of Pilates and dance and has helped thousands of men and women achieve leaner, more streamlined silhouettes. But as Anderson’s popularity grew, so did her legal and financial woes.
“Business is tough, especially when you’re a woman,” Anderson says with a sigh. After a dispute with a business partner who originally helped her open her second studio in Los Angeles in 2005, Anderson was forced to close her studio in Indiana and relocate to California with her son Sam. “Lucky for me, I’m not a girl that wants the next Prada bag,” the single mother says of paying back her debts and regaining her credibility. “Everything that I made, I put back into my studio. I wanted to succeed at this.”
Today, Anderson is in better shape. She has a greater sense of control over herself and her business and has even found a new partner in one of her star pupils, Paltrow. She is in the process of patenting the more than 3,000 painstakingly crafted moves and sequences she has developed over the past seven years and is taking them to the masses with a new state-of-the-art studio in New York City, a thriving business that has sold more than a quarter of a million copies of her DVDs around the world and an interactive website, TracyAndersonConnect.com, that will launch later this month. “This is not a trend,” Anderson says with determination. “This is a lifestyle. At a time when the world needs to be taken care of, people need to learn how to take care of themselves first.”

After graduation she studied dance in Chicago, where one of her ballet instructors introduced her to yoga. A local photographer brought her to Marie Anderson Boyd, founder of Aria Models in Chicago, later acquired by Ford Models, who signed her on the spot. Boyd booked Stiles’ first casting, an ad campaign for Coca-Cola, and She moved to New York City soon after. She eventually realized that modeling was not what she was truly interested in. When Ford asked her to start making short promotional yoga videos for the agency and post them to YouTube, it was the beginning of her current career. She took a 200-hour course to become a certified instructor, and continues to make the videos, which have drawn over four million views.
Stiles was one of the first yoga instructors to use social media to attract students. The YouTube videos led a DVD with fellow model Brooklyn Decker as well as one of her own, Yoga Anywhere: The New York Session. After leaving Ford and modeling in 2007, she blogged for Women’s Health and The Huffington Post .
A 2009 post at HuffPo entitled “Help! I’m Addicted to FaceBook”, has received 1.2 million hits, making it one of the most-viewed blogs on the site. Stiles’s first book, Slim Calm Sexy, published by Rodale, rose to the #1 spot on Amazon.com and best-selling status the first week it was released, August 31, 2010.
Stiles has been featured in pictorials for W, Shape Magazine, Self, Marie Claire, Fitness, and appeared on the covers of City, Time Out, and Fit Yoga. Stiles appeared in ads for Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Target Corporation, Gap and American Apparel, as well as numerous TV commercials for the Chrysler PT Cruiser and Avon. Stiles’ health and yoga related work has been featured in such magazines as Esquire, Mens Health, Ascent, and Yoga Journal.
Stiles has been the Face of Women’s Health, a Rodale, Inc. publication, since April 2009. Stiles is also a spokesperson for Nissan Motors, along with Ryan Hall and Lance Armstrong.
In 2008 Stiles met her husband, Michael Taylor, at the Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York. “He was normal, he’s straight, he does yoga … I’m done for”, she joked. After a civil ceremony in New York, they honeymooned in Negril, Jamaica.
The couple founded the New York City yoga studio Strala later that year. They made up the name, which is Swedish for “radiates light”. In addition to continuing to make her videos and other media appearances, she currently teaches a quarter of the classes and oversees 13 other instructors at the 3,500 square feet (330 m2) studio, which has become profitable enough for her to consider opening a branch. Deepak Chopra and Jane Fonda are among her students; the former considers her his personal instructor. “I have been doing yoga for 30 years,” he says. “I have had teachers of all kinds. Taking lessons from her has been more useful to me than taking yoga from anyone else.”
Stiles does not follow any school of yoga or instructor and focuses purely on its physical aspects and health benefits, with no philosophical or spiritual dimension. She eschews the Sanskrit names for yoga positions and does not ask students to chant. She hires instructors without regard to the certification process normally required elsewhere, preferring to assess them by watching them teach, although Strala does offer a teacher-training program. Strala’s per-class fee, $10, is lower than other Manhattan yoga studios.
Her goal is to make yoga more accessible. “People need yoga, not another religious leader. Quite often in New York, they want to be religious leaders, and it’s not useful”, she explains. “I was never invited to the party anyway—so I started my own party”. Too many people outside yoga, she believes, see it as “something Jennifer Aniston does”. Fonda has praised “her ability to make yoga accessible to people who might be scared of it or think it might be too esoteric”. Stiles says she receives letters regularly from people, such as military men, who do her videos but are afraid to go to a yoga studio. “This studio is the first place I have felt comfortable”, one Strala student told The New York Times. “It doesn’t feel like it’s all 26-year-old former dancers.”
Stiles’ approach to yoga has met with some controversy in the yoga community. Jennilyn Carson of the popular YogaDork blog reports that some practitioners consider it “disrespect to what the practice is” for Stiles to promote it as a weight-loss method. “I don’t care what Tara Stiles says yoga is,” another yogini says. “It’s not about making your body beautiful.” Yoga traditionalists have also complained about her willingness to draw on her modeling background and exploit sex appeal in yoga-wear advertisements and her videos, some of which she has appeared in wearing short shorts and a tank top. “Who made these rules?”, Stiles has responded. “I feel like I’m standing up for yoga.” To critics of her videos and photo shoots, she says, “We should not be hiding behind our bodies. They should be empowering.”
Stiles was a contestant and winner of MTV’s Fear episode 9, “Fort Gains”. She has also appeared in Matthew Barney’s The Cremaster Cycle: Cremester 3. She co-hosted three segments on fitness and fashion with Pedro Andrade, Siafa Lewis, and Margherita Missoni.

Warner moved to California at the age of 18. She has worked as a model, actor, and a script coordinator for Warner Brothers, eventually writing and selling her own scripts. Warner is currently a professional personal trainer.
Athletic from an early age, Warner played inter-collegiate soccer and softball, and has been a lifelong equestrian competitor.
Warner is a lesbian and her show has chronicled her relationships with four different women. After her last relationship with Brianna deteriorated, Warner stated on the show that she wouldn’t be dating women so much younger than herself anymore. On the show, she regularly sees a therapist to discuss relationship and other problems. In an earlier season of the show, Warner made a pilgrimage back to her hometown in Ohio and visited her father’s grave. She revealed on the show that her father had suffered from mental illness and had committed suicide years earlier.
In 2004, Warner opened Sky Sport and Spa. On July 19, 2006, the Bravo network aired the first episode of Work Out. The reality show’s first season followed Warner’s daily routine, giving a behind-the-scenes look at how Warner runs her day-to-day business, juggles her personal life with then girlfriend Milenna (Mimi) Saraiva, and deals with her employees’ personal issues.
On March 18, 2007, Bravo launched a second season of “Work Out,” where it continues to show Warner handling her personal life and controversial relationship with employee Rebecca Cardon, launching a new business venture, integrating a new trainer (Gregg Butler) into the mix, and dealing with the sudden death of trainer Doug Blasdell.
There was much debate over her relationship with Rebecca, whom she began to casually date during the filming of the second season late 2006. In April 2007, Jackie stated during the Work Out “Reunion” show that due to the attention they have received, the relationship was to be kept private until decided otherwise.
As seen on season three, Jackie dated, and lived with, a 25 year-old bartender named Brianna Stockton. At the end of season three, Jackie and Brianna appeared to have ended their relationship.
Bravo cancelled the show after Season 3 of Work Out, which created much controversy. In the May 6, 2008 episode Jackie and her SkySport office manager Lisa were overheard in Jackie’s office gossiping negatively about the physical appearance of trainer Brian Peeler’s client. Brian and his client were both working out several feet away from the office. The client turned out to be well-known fitness model and breast cancer survivor Jamie Eason. Negative comments were made regarding Jamie’s breast implants and were overheard by Eason’s boyfriend, who was right outside Jackie’s office, unbeknownst to Jackie. The actual footage was not shown by Bravo, but Jamie’s boyfriend Rich Luzzi, as well as Jamie Eason herself, have stated that Jackie made most of the negative comments and Lisa only chimed in. Lisa said later in her Bravo blog that Jackie was heard making negative comments by Jamie Eason’s boyfriend.
Jackie denied making any comments herself, both in her on-the-air commentary and on her Bravo blog after the episode aired, and said the negative comments were made only by her assistant Lisa. When Brian Peeler tried to discuss the situation with her, Jackie refused to do so and fired Brian. This turn of events, when aired, caused a media maelstrom of protests, petitions, and calls to cancel Work Out due to perceived inappropriate workplace behavior by Jackie, her alleged attempts to deflect blame and to cover up her supposed part in the situation, and her lack of an apology. The episode aired on May 6, and by May 9 Gatorade, a major sponsor of the show, dropped its sponsorship and publicly criticized the comments about a breast cancer survivor made on the program. The show was cancelled shortly afterward, and Warner sold Sky Sport and Spa in 2009.
In the summer of 2010, Warner appears in promotional commercials for the Bravo network, appearing alongside stars of current Bravo series and possibly suggesting a return to the network.
On July 27, 2010, Bravo announced that Jackie Warner will return to the network in September 2010 with Thintervention with Jackie Warner. This new fitness show follows Jackie as she helps a group of eight clients lose weight, including former Real Housewives of Orange County star Jeana Keough.
By the age of twenty-two, Jackie Warner was inspired to pursue a career in fitness and nutrition after training a few close friends with dramatic life-changing results. Within a year, Jackie opened her first health center, Lift. The revolutionary fitness facility was the first health club in Southern California to accept health insurance for exercise.
From 2004 to 2009, Jackie owned and operated her next gym, Sky Sport & Spa. Employing Jackie’s complete approach to fitness, Sky Sport was the nation’s premiere full
service health and medical practice. Although frequented by fitness aficionados for years, Sky Sport was introduced to the rest of the world on Jackie’s hit television show, Bravo’s Work Out. She returned to television in 2010 in the Bravo show, Thintervention with Jackie Warner. Hailed by critics, the premiere gave the network its best ratings ever for a Monday. Jackie is one of the world’s most sought-after fitness experts by media and consumers alike. She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post, Fitness Rx, and Fitness magazine, and she wrote the New York Times bestseller, This is Why You’re Fat (and How to Get Thin Forever), and stars in several best-selling DVDs.
Jackie is the current face of a health and wellness campaign called Fit in Your Skin, and is the national spokesperson for Eggs of Australia.
To help people take back further control of their lives, Jackie created “Eat.Move.Believe.”, a new online fitness and wellness center. This new program will provide workouts; healthy recipes; and fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle tips.

In addition, she has been a featured expert on the Today Show, Rachael Ray, Discovery Health, the Tyra Banks Show, MTV, VH1, E! and more.

She has also released two training DVD’s with the global health media company Gaiam, and was the technical fitness director for UFC star Matt Hughes’ Fitness DVD.
After a successful three year run at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico, Borden brought her private and corporate luxury fitness retreats to the 5-star Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California. The four-day experience included personal training, spa treatments and customized meals by the executive chef according to Borden’s S.O.S. Food Plan. Her retreats are now available to be tailored for individuals or companies at any resort property.
Borden volunteers with the physical rehabilitation of breast cancer survivors and also worked with with at-risk youth through the Chaka Khan Foundation, helping children to improve their knowledge of nutrition and fitness.
An avid dancer growing up, she always felt an inherent connection to fitness, yet battled a vicious eating disorder throughout her teen years. Hitting bottom at 18, Borden finally found a peaceful balance of exercise and nutrition through Overeaters Anonymous. “After having such a profound recovery experience, I felt inspired to share my insight on exercise and nutrition with others,” she says. Borden currently trains privately at Fitness Factory in Los Angeles.
