Tatiana Borodulina: 4X European Championship Gold Medalist in Short-Track Speed Skating Reveals her Success Mantra

Tatiana Aleksandrovna Borodulina was born in Omsk, Russia. She is a Russian short-track speed skater, who formerly represented Australia. Borodulina competed for Russia at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. She was a finalist in the 1500m.

Borodulina moved to Australia in 2006. She won two gold medals and a bronze medal in the 2009 Short Track Speed Skating World Cup season.

She has studied at Siberian State University of Physical Culture, Omsk, Russia. She debut in 2001 for Russia in European Championships. She holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia. She became the first athlete representing Australia to win a World Cup race, when she won the 500m event in Dresden, Germany in 2009. In 2009 she was named the Australian Ice Racing’s Skater of the Year. She participated in three Olympics at Torino 2006, Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You must have started short track speed skating at a young age as you reached the pinnacle of success by winning four Gold’s at 2005 European Championships at Turin in speed skating. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina: I started to do sports at age of 8 years but it wasn’t short-track. It was figure skating, I switched to short track at the age of 13 years. A lot of hard work and support from my family and coaches, all of it helped me to achieve this.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You injured your knee while skiing in 2001. During the 2011/2012 season, you were suffering from pain in your back and went to cure your chronic disc protrusion in hospital before the start of the next season. How you were able to overcome such a physical injury/setback and what advice you can give to fellow sports person in a similar situation?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

All of this is our professional injuries, if not every first then every second skater has this problems. I was lucky because I didn’t make it through on my own. Lot of work and support of team’s medical staff made my recovery easier and faster. The only advice I can give never rush, better to take time and fully recover after injury, if possible.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine which you shall like to share?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

Lunges are important for skating and something I do everyday. Stand with your feet shoulder’s width apart, spine long and straight, shoulders back, gaze forward. Step forward with one leg into a wide stance (about one leg’s distance between feet) while maintaining spine alignment. Lower your hips until both knees are bent at approximately a 90 degree angle. Your front knee should not extend over your ankle, and your back knee should hover above the ground. Keep your weight in your heels as you push back up to starting position. Repeat on both sides.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

I don’t take any diet. I just try to eat healthy food. More vegies, fruits and lots of water.

You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

Healthy diet play a big role for hair and skin. I’m taking daily vitamins and drink a lot of water. I try to have enough sleep. And I love to use Oro Therapy 24k products for my hair and holy land products for skin.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the aspiring and budding professional speed skating girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of speed skating?

 

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

Believe in yourself ! Don’t be afraid of hard work, no pain no gain. It will be ups and downs but you should stay positive and never give up.

When I was young I always wanted to hear Russian anthem in my honour. After I felt proud for my country and I felt that hard work paid off .

Body confidence isn’t so much down to what your body looks like but how you actually feel about it. Love yourself, love your body and be yourself.

Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive speed skating ?

Ms. Tatiana Borodulina:

I have a sport family, they always support and believe in me. And of course my coaches and my team have influenced and motivated me.
