Namita Nayyar:
You made your World Cup debut at age 19 in January 2013 and gained your first podium in January 2017 in a super-G at Garmisch, Germany. Several weeks later at the World Championships, you won the silver medal in the downhill. How has the journey been in the world of ski racing?
Stephanie Venier:
I have always been very ski enthusiastic and I started skiing since I was 2 years old. I grew up next to a ski resort. After secondary school in 2012 I really wanted to go to the Skigymnasium stams, my parents made it possible for me and so I was able to combine school and sports. It was a dream to participate at my first World Cup Race in 2013. Shortly afterwards in February 2013, I became the Quebec Junior World Champion in SuperG. It was or is a long, stony way, but it’s absolutely worth it and that’s what I want to do and it’s just fun.

Namita Nayyar:
What all factors drew your attention towards this sport and why? What do you like the most about super-g and downhill?
Stephanie Venier:
I grew up next to a ski resort, I used to ski directly to the house for lunch. That was and is the most normal thing in the world for me. I like the speed and the adrenalin kick at the start. The risk in this sport is also a little thing, I like. And I like the way the kids and everybody who are cheering for us.
Namita Nayyar:
Every sport has a role model in our eyes & soul. Can you name any athletes, that have been a role model for you?
Stephanie Venier:
Role model. hmmm. I have many role models. Serena Williams in tennis, Marcel Hirscher or Michaela Dorfmeister some years ago. I just always try to be the best of myself.
Namita Nayyar:
Physical fitness is a key essential in every sport. What all is needed ad goes into the making of a good ski sportsperson? Challenges one might come across initially?
Stephanie Venier:
Many people always think, we are winter athletes and we only go skiing in winter or on the glaciers in summer. But we have to work out all summer, indoor and outdoor. I train at the Olympic Center Innsbruck/ Tirol. Whether mountain biking, cycling, running, strength training, intervals – all this is in the summer.
Namita Nayyar:
Diet you like to stick with for optimum performance? 5 favourite foods you enjoy anytime?
Stephanie Venier:
I’m a untypical sportswoman. I don’t like fruits and vegetables that much, since I was a baby. My favorite food I enjoy anytime is beef/steak, rice, eggs, potatoes and a lot of chocolate 😉
Namita Nayyar:
It seems you live by the quote “Only those who dare can achieve anything.”? How has this belief helped you live by the ups and down in your career as a sportsperson?
Stephanie Venier:
It’s always good to believe in yourself and to trust what you can do best, in my case it’s skiing. No matter how deep you can fall, you’ve got it, you just have to show it and just dare.
Namita Nayyar:
Your view about Women Fitness and message for our viewers?
Stephanie Venier:
I think women can do everything that men can do. Don’t be afraid of it and trust yourself. A good mind is important. And last but no least, Be yourself and have fun, life is too short.
Namita Nayyar:
Message for your fans and word of advice for upcoming sportsperson in skiing?
Stephanie Venier:
It’s so good that our sport has so many fans. Without fans, skiing wouldn’t be the same.
To expectant skiers: Have fun always and even if the weather is not that good. It makes you a better skier 🙂 But the big thing is: FUN!
Namita Nayyar:
Injury and pain are a part of any sport. How do you go about handling the same? Recovery tips you believe in?
Stephanie Venier:
In 2015 I got an injury. I got a cartilage damage. At that moment, I realized I can’t ski anymore. From there on I’ve had to train harder and more consistently, because that’s what I love the most. In retrospect, I saw the injury positive, because it “opened” my eyes. But once again I don’t want to experience something like this again. Blackroll and ergometer did me extremely well after skiing.
Namita Nayyar:
You have often been referred to as “MISS GUCCI” Why so?
Stephanie Venier:
I’m a really fashion-conscious woman and I really value good style.
Good style is always a matter of taste, but no matter where we are, or what we do, the Austrian girls, my sister or friends always come to me and ask if that looks good or how I would combine that, and so I’m actually coming to this name.
Namita Nayyar:
Stress-busting tips after a tough training?
Stephanie Venier:
Couch, relaxing and good food.
Namita Nayyar:
Your next goal is?
Stephanie Venier:
More wins, more podiums and achieve the cristal globe in the future.
Namita Nayyar:
Skin & hair care routine to cope the challenges of varied weather conditions?
Stephanie Venier:
A sunscreen and wind & weather cream is compulsory in winter as well as in summer on the glaciers or on the ocean. I always wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner, but only 3 times in week. So the hair have a little glow and it’s good for the hair. In summer I wash it more often, because in summer I just sweat more.
