Sofia Sulligan from “Marriage Boot Camp” is featured in Season 2 of the WE tv reality series, along with her husband, Shaun Sulligan. The 25-year-old Sofia Sulligan was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from college in 2006 with degrees in Spanish, Political Science, and Latin American studies. What many people don’t know is that Sofia didn’t learn English until she was four! Before English, she spoke Spanish and Ukrainian.
After finishing her under graduation, Sofia started working in promotions as an independent contractor before starting her own business in Philadelphia. She now works as a marketing freelancer. Sofia and Shaun met in the summer of 2009 through a mutual friend. In 2011, they went on their first vacation together to Florida and the Bahamas. After that trip, they fell more deeply in love. On this former bridezilla’s “To Do” list and get married (check!), have children, buy a house, and earn an MBA. Shaun and Sofia plan on starting their family soon and hope to try for kids after “Marriage Boot Camp.”
Sofia Sulligan is a woman who has it all: brains, beauty and a business, but does she have a husband who can keep up with her? At the age of 25, after earning three degrees and utilizing three different languages, Sofia works for herself as a marketing specialist in Philadelphia. Sofia’s professional accomplishments are very proud moments in her life; however, one of the best moments in her life was getting married to her best friend, Shaun.
Even though one of Sofia’s goals was to get married, her marriage it has been anything but the picture-perfect version she once imagined. Can the Marriage Boot Camp help her relationship with Shaun by teaching both of them how to be better communicators? Sofia desperately wants to be shown more love and affection. Will Marriage Boot Camp be able to address Shaun’s anger issues long enough for Sofia to get her point across? Or, will Sofia’s inability to let go of the past stand in their way of a happy future. If they can’t get through this rough patch and gain the skills they need from Marriage Boot Camp, Sofia won’t be able to fulfill her dream of starting a family with Shaun. They will be looking at filing for divorce, instead of growing their family.

Sofia Sulligan talented and accomplished Star of WE TV’s hit series Marriage Boot Camp is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You graduated from college in 2006 with degrees in Spanish, Political Science, and Latin American studies and can speak English, Spanish and Ukrainian. How this knowledge and experience helped you in your professional career?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
It actually does help because I can work with a lot more people. I’m not just a person who knows only about fitness and I am very passionate about politics and other cultures. I am second generation American on one side and first on the other so I love working with people who are from all over the world. Education is very important to me and it has helped me, be more determined and confident in knowing I can accomplish anything that I want in my life.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Tell us more about your journey in the world of fitness that you started the endeavor of Double “S” Fitness ?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
I have been an athlete my entire life. Field hockey was my thing and I always had to workout and be in shape to play. It’s just something that is a part of me.
Once Shaun and I got together, fitness and nutrition became more of a regime. Since we are very passionate about it, we realized that Double S Fitness was our calling. It’s always awesome to work in a field that you truly enjoy.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
I love to change it up. I always do cardio (either the stair master or elliptical). I don’t run, even though that’s very good, because I have asthma and I can’t go as hard for as long. I’m all about changing it up though because it’s a shock to your muscles: circuit training (push ups, crunches, burpees, squats, lunges, jump rope, etc.) or working on specific body parts using free weights/machines.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
Many people don’t know but I had an eating disorder when I was young, so eating has always been a challenge for me. I was 5’2″ and 89 lbs. It was a struggle for me to learn how to eat well.
I actually do try to eat as clean as possible because the diet is 80%. If people eat junk but go to the gym, they won’t be able to attain what they want as quickly as they could with a proper diet. It’s always important to have protein (fish, meat, beans), veggies, a little bit if carbs, and fruit. I also love juice and I try to drink it at least once a day. I try to cook at home so that I know what I’m putting in my food.
On the other hand, I do have a cheat meal once in a while. I’m human and sometimes I want something but I don’t go overboard. If I do have a cheat meal, I know that I have to go even harder in the gym. My advice, don’t kill yourself if you cheat that one time and just because you do give in, don’t eat junk for the rest of the day. Stay on track and just push yourself even harder in your workout.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What is your motivation to take the personality of a fitness and personal trainer ?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
Being fit and healthy is extremely important and it’s something that I love. Like I said before, I was just like many women out there who don’t have great eating habits and I want them to know that I get it. If you put your mind to it and find what your motivation is, you will be able to get back on track.
My grandfather is 93 years old and he had his first heart attack at 47, so 56 years ago. As of 5 years ago, he was still swimming 3 days a week. Now, he tries to walk a couple of days a week at the part. He always says that eating healthy and working out has helped him stay alive and I believe it. Childhood obesity is also on the rise and the United States is the most obese country in the world. Children don’t play outside anymore as much as I did when I was a child.
Today, kids watch TV or play video games the majority of the time and a lot of families don’t have family dinners. When people sit down and eat together, they are more susceptible to eat less. I’m also married to a bodybuilder and I do live with him daily. He tries to gain weight while I try to stay toned.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
I actually have extremely sensitive skin and I am very careful what products I put on it. I use glycerin soap and try to not wear makeup (other than mascara, eye shadow and liner) unless it is necessary. I do take biotin because that helps with skin, nails, and hair.
In regards to my hair, like I said, I take biotin. I do a lot to it; dye, straighten, curl, etc. so I try to use good products because I need to counter act what I do. Hair masks are awesome and I try to do them as naturally as possible. My favorite is a warm olive oil or egg white mask because they help moisturize and add shine to your hair.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have done bold photo shoots. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold shoots?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
You have to be happy with yourself. Believe me, I am a perfectionist and I always say, “I need to work on this or that” but I know that I have worked hard on what I have attained and I am proud of it. A lot of people worry to much about what others think so they try to be what they think society wants them to be. Be who you are and love yourself. Once you can do that, doing these photo shoots is easy!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You are a star of WE TV’s hit series Marriage Boot Camp. Tell us about your experience of participating in it ?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
Marriage Bootcamp is a show were 5 couples, who don’t know each other, live in a house together in order to work on their marriages. It’s tough admitting your issues to other people but it’s even harder doing it when you know that all of America will know them too. My husband, Shaun, and I put 100% into the show and we got a lot out of it. Jim and Elizabeth Carroll are great at what they do. It’s nothing to be ashamed of when people go to counseling, be it alone or with their spouse, because nobody is perfect and we all have something to work on. To me, admitting that you have an issue and saying that you want help for it is a strength.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your inspiration and motivation in your life ?
Ms. Sofia Sulligan:
My mom. She raised me as a single parent and I’ve always called her iron woman. Even though it was hard for her because she didn’t have anyone else to help support me, she never made me aware of the situation. My mom wanted me to have a normal life and my mom is honestly better than having a mother and a father. She’s my best friend and I thank her for everything that she’s done for me.
