Lauren Sesselmann an exceptionally talented and accomplished International Professional Soccer Player, Model and Entrepreneur has always lived by “If you want it bad enough keep on going until you get your shot.” Create a vision/goal board and write out each milestone you want to reach. In 2017, she was honoured by Canada Football and inducted into its Hall of Fame. She stays fit with “some total body work on a slideboard or with towels on my hands and feet at home on a slippery surface. You can do so much in the comfort of your home it’s crazy.”
Inspiring message for upcoming players and fans as told to Women Fitness “First compose a vision board of what you want to accomplish and the steps it will take to get there, second approach each day with a positive and driven attitude, there will be bumps in the road, and you may not succeed at first, but if you want it bad enough never give up on yourself. YOU are the only one that is in control of your destiny and what you accomplish so don’t let anyone stand in your way. And always remember to HAVE FUN!!! Fun should always be a part of your passion!!” Putting in a word on Women Fitness “I love every aspect of the website…it is a fantastic forum for women where they can learn just about anything they need to know…exercise, weight loss, pregnancy, beauty, nutrition and so much more which is incredible.”
Pain & Injury are a part of sports, Carli Lloyd, two-time Olympic gold medalist has a word to say “Injuries are never easy but injuries are part of sport and will happen. These setbacks make you stronger and appreciate the game even more. I have learned that it is important to be patient and rebuild your body, so it doesn’t break down again.” When it comes to fitness, she stresses on stretching “I’m constantly working at my aerobic power, non-aerobic power and strength and power doing body weight exercises. I also spend countless hours stretching. Over 50% of my training load is fitness related.”
Lloyd became the first person ever to score three goals in a FIFA Women’s World Cup final, and the second soccer player in history to score a hat trick in any senior FIFA World Cup Final. Her message for upcoming soccer players “It is not good enough to only train as much as your teammates. The only way you will separate yourself from others is by training more than anyone. If you want to become great you must outwork and out train everyone. I don’t ever switch off.” She adds “Women looking to reach a high fitness level need to build a plan specific for them. Everyone’s body and lifestyle is different and you need to find a fitness plan that works for you.”
Josee Belanger played in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2015. She reached the pinnacle of success on winning a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 CONCACAF championship. Her goal “I play with passion and I work very hard on and off the field. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing, but the most important thing was that I stuck with it and persevered through all the obstacles in my way (injuries, especially) to achieve what I wanted most – to represent Canada at a World Cup!” She has always believed in “focus on where you want to go, not what you fear!”. Trust the process, believe your destiny and focus all your energy on what you want to achieve with a positive mindset.
Her advice for players “focus on releasing tightness in some specific parts of my body, the tension before getting into a game or workout. This reduces the risk of getting injured and optimizes the range of motion.
For that spirit to win she has those three key essentials
1) Work & discipline is the bridge between goal and accomplishment.
2) Be inspired by your teammates, but never forget that you have your own skills and qualities. Be you! Be confident! Trust what you have inside you. Become the best version of yourself.
3) Play with passion, enjoy the journey!
Get inspired! Believe in yourself! Live your life with passion! Because “If you follow your dreams and spend your life doing what brings you joy you are most likely to find success” through perseverance
