Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have been a excellent performer in BMX cycle racing from Denmark. Tell us about your journey that took you to where you are now in the world of competitive BMX cycle racing and what factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
First of all it wouldn’t have been possible, if it wasn’t for the big support from my parents! They were the ones that was taking me and my brother out riding many times during every week, and not just a 5 min drive for them. They really spend a lot of time taking us where we wanted to go ride! I think what also really helped me was actually being the only girl, and riding with the guys.
I remember spending days out riding with the guys from my club, both race tracks and trails, which was loads of fun and definitely helped me with my skills. When I got older I had many coaches that helped me improve, starting with the club coach, to talent coach and now I’m training with the danish national coach, where I still develop my skills and power! So I definitely couldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for the people around me!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How could you overcome the element of fear in BMX cycle racing as a sport?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
BMX Racing is a really tough sport, but when you love riding it so much, you just can’t (and want to) let fear stop you. Of course I have been through some hard moments of my career where I really had to pull myself together to go jump the jump again or riding with 7 people around me again. But I have overcome some hard moments, so don’t really think it can get worse than that, haha!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
One gym exercise I really love is of course squat! I’m getting stronger and stronger and there is nothing better than just putting more kilos on that bar every session pretty much!
I also really enjoy doing clean, as it is a really technical gym exercise, but I finally figured out how to do it, so it is fun now! Also bench press is one of my favorites, so pretty much the main big exercises!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
I’ve been having a dietitian plan with a Team Denmark dietitian for the last 3 years nearly, as I was a bit fat when I was younger. And after I’ve lost around 10 kilos, and my fitness level is now a lot better! And I’m still under this plan, just trying to get more and more fit, but not too hard, as I don’t wanna lose my strength on the same time.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding competitive BMX cycle racing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of competitive professional BMX cycle racing?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
I guess there is nothing else to say that just to keep working hard, no matter how tough it is. Try to find the motivation even though you’re up 6 in the morning to do sprints in rain and wind, just keep going! And then specific to girls, I’d say in a sport like BMX that they shouldn’t think of them as girls that can’t do the same as the guys. Of course we aren’t as strong as they are, but it can’t stop us from improving our technical skills, which is very important to work on if you wanna climb the ladder of success!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Tell us about your training with Team Denmark?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
I train pretty much every day besides sunday with the Danish National Coach, and that has really pushed me and made me get a lot stronger and better, instead of training on my own, which I did when I was younger. We have a great team work, and same time has loads of fun together, so training is never boring having him there. And every BMX track session I have, I’m training with really good riders, that also pushes me on the track which is good for racing!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
On 13th July 2014 you won the bronze medal at BMX / Women’s Championship 2014. Tell us more about the experience of competing in this race?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
When I got told that Denmark had the European Championship 2014 I got really excited, as I was injured when Denmark had the World Championship in 2011, so just knowing I would be able to compete at an international race on home soil made me happy! But when I crossed the finish line, super close with the former World Champion Magalie Pottier, not knowing if I got the bronze or the 4th place, I was just all thrilled, because it was really a cool final. And then I got told that I won the Bronze I was super happy, even tearing up a bit, because I’ve always managed to get 4th place, and this time the odds was with me and it was super exciting. And then with all the danish fans cheering, made me have the best feeling ever!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive BMX Cycle racing ?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
My home club have had a big influence in my success, as it has been a club with many international good riders. Henrik Baltzersen, that showed the danish colours at the Olympics in 2008 was from my home club, and I think it has meant a big deal having a guy like him from the same club and knowing I would be able to maybe do the same some day! But that’s from my early years of racing, I think the biggest influence must be the danish national coach for all the hard work he has done to help me to where I am now, and pushing me to get even better!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You may had sports injuries in your BMX cycle racing career. How you were able to overcome such a physical injury/setback and what advice you can give to fellow sports person in a similar situation?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
It is truly the hardest thing, to get a setback like you get in a sport like BMX, and to have to keep moving forward, even though you’ve been through something really hard. To be fair I don’t know what made me go through my injuries it like I’ve done, I think it’s just because you know you are doing an extreme sport, and that’s just the price when it doesn’t go as you planned. Which sometimes just makes you train even harder, even though you are walking around with broken bones. You just have to do your best to get over it ASAP and get back riding, because that’s what you love!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
With exceptional hard work you are credited with all your achievements. Do you believe that does the hand of Providence (Supreme Being) played a role in your success?
Ms. Simone Tetsche Christensen:
To be honest I don’t think that much about the future. Of course I think about wanting to go to the Olympics, but I focus more on the moment now, the race now, and take one thing at the time. That’s the way I do pretty much everything!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
