I never considered myself anything out of the ordinary. I wasn’t born with bulging muscles, out of this world athletic ability, or any special talent. I played sports and was pretty much always just another kid on the team, not falling behind or getting ahead. However I always had a dream of being a star football player one day and playing college ball.
However I also knew that I had a lot of work to do to ever accomplish such a feat. So come 8th grade in order to bulk up for football season I started training with my dad’s old gym equipment we had out on our porch. It was a simple rack with a barbell and some weights and I did a basic workout consisting mostly of bench press and curls.
Come football season I ended up being the 2nd strongest kid on my team. I was amazed at how much training and eating right had transformed my body. I was stronger, healthier, more athletic, and more confident than I had ever been all thanks to weight training. I knew I had discovered something special and potentially life changing. I was bit by the iron bug.
