Namita Nayyar:
You were born in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. You must have started practicing Karate at an early age. You won in 2015 Gold medal in both European Games at Baku and European Championships at Istanbul in the Individual kata event. This propelled your career to the height where you have been at the top of the world as a leading Karate player. Tell us more about this journey of hard work, tenacity, and endurance?
Sandra Sánchez:
I have achieved things that a few years ago seemed impossible. For many years I received messages that I was never going to make it. And this didn’t come by magic, this came because I kept believing in myself, I found the best companion along the way, and we trained and worked tirelessly, we didn’t know if that medal would come, but we knew we wanted to walk the path.
Namita Nayyar:
You won the Summer Olympics 2020 Gold Medal in Tokyo Japan. Tell us more about these winnings and what had been a catalyst to achieve such spectacular winning in your Karate career?
Sandra Sánchez:
This was something incredible, Jesús del Moral (my coach and partner) and me had done all the work, in an exceptional way, the planning had been very detailed, but we knew that we had all the external factors against us. Even so, before going to the final I trusted so much in the work we had done to get there; I wanted to believe that I could convince the referees that despite not being Japanese I could win that medal.
Namita Nayyar:
You won the gold medal in the women’s kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. You are a two-time gold medalist in the women’s individual kata event at the World Karate Championships (2018 and 2021). You also won the gold medal in this event at the European Karate Championships in six consecutive competitions (2015 – 2021). Elaborate more about this exceptional achievement of your Karate playing career?
Sandra Sánchez:
I had spent half my life trying to get into the national team and had received a No for an answer for years, the day that opportunity came, I took it and did not leave anything to chance, I have worked every day, trying to improve as a person and as a karateka.
Namita Nayyar:
You are recognized by Guinness World Records for winning the most medals in the Karate1 Premier League, you won 35 consecutive medals between January 2014 and February 2020. Which of these Karate championships wins did you find most challenging and gave you the feeling of great accomplishment? Tell us a memorable moment in these Karate competitions and how these win in your career has been a turning point to reach greater heights in your Karate playing career?
Sandra Sánchez:
All the way has been intense and important, each medal was one more step, in each championship I learned something more, the result did not matter, there was always something to improve, the sum of all the championships is the meaning that we were doing good job
Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?
Sandra Sánchez:
I train an average of 6 hours a day, divided into athletic and technical work. In athletic work I do strength workout three days a week, endurance workout three days and on those days there is also core and compensatory workout.
