Motivational Quote

"Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution."

Words of Inspiration

Be Grateful

Always focus on the solution, not the problem and live with an attitude of gratitude! Mother Teresa was a primary example of this phenomenon. Her entire life revolved around helping others in need. As a result she experienced a great deal of love and self-satisfaction in her life.

Take a moment to think of five things in your life that you are grateful for today. For example, your friends, your family, your job, your sense of smell, touch, sight, and sound. The list can go on and on. Imagine what your life would be like without these things. Write them down on a piece of paper and really think about the things you are grateful for. You will be amazed at how great you will feel!

Try to be grateful for all that God has given you and work towards improving what all does'nt seem right. Even in times when it seems that nothing could be worse, there is always a reason to be grateful. And when you feel a sense of gratitude, you feel a sense of happiness and content.

Question & Answer

Q: What are the most effective types of exercise for losing fat/weight?

Thanks
Martha

A. Hi Martha
Exercises like jogging, running, walking, skipping, cycling, swimming etc. that cause your heart rate to increase to 65-80% of the suggested maximum heart rate (http://www.womenfitness.net/wfmember/programs/cardio/contents.htm#11) for your age group (which can be determined by subtracting your age from 220), and which will keep your pulse at that rate for at least 15-20 minutes continuously (i.e., "aerobic", or "oxygen-using" exercises) are suggested for fat loss. Depending on your current fitness level (http://www.womenfitness.net/pulserate.htm) and how hard you work, many exercises, sports, or tasks can be aerobic in nature. You don't necessarily have to jog or go bicycling; you can count walking, dancing, or vigorous housework (e.g., vacuuming) as exercise so long as it causes your heart rate to stay in that 65-80% range continuously for 15-20 minutes.

Note: While swimming qualifies as an aerobic exercise and does appear to provide all the cardiovascular benefits of other aerobic exercises, it appears to be less effective for weight loss (http://www.womenfitness.net/weightloss.htm) than other exercises. Swimmers tend to have higher fat levels than other athletes; this may be because fat provides buoyancy and insulation against cool water temperatures.

Sincerely,
Namita
