Samantha Baker Graham: International Fitness Model Reveals Her Workout, Diet & Beauty Secrets

SAMANTHA BAKERSamantha Baker Graham is an international and national published fitness, swimsuit model and NPC figure competitor. She has been a dancer pretty much her entire life and that is mainly what got her interested in pursuing fitness. After college she decided to try out to be an NFL Cheerleader for the New England Patriots. She had never been a cheerleader in high school or college but knew the main focus of the squad was dance. Once on the squad she realized that being fit, working out along with dance was something she absolutely loved. After being on the squad for a few years she decided to pursue a career in fitness modeling. She has been blessed so far to work with some of the best photographers and had the privilege of being published both Internationally and Nationally in several fitness magazines and covers.

Helping people is one of the greatest rewards for her. She know the feeling of accomplishment and experience when she can transform her own body while at the same time improving her overall health. To be able to help another individual experience and feel that same way is one of her ultimate goals. 2012 has put a great benchmark on her fitness career with all of the new goals she accomplished, magazines she appeared in and companies she signed on with.

Samantha Baker Graham is an exceptionally talented and accomplished international and national published fitness, swimsuit model and NPC figure competitor. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have been active at school in sports and dance. Later on you took the career as a professional cheerleader. You then have been a fitness model and a fitness competitor. Tell us about your journey that took you to the the world of fitness and as a winner in fitness competitions?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: I have always been involved with sports and dance growing up, in school, as well as in college. I decided to further pursue my dance career and try out to become an NFL Cheerleader. I made the squad and was a Professional NFL Cheerleader for a number of years. I loved the workout regimen, the dedication and hard work involved with being on the squad and wanted to continue on with that process after cheerleading.

I loved seeing the physical changes in my body as well as the mental strength to push harder and harder. I decided to give fitness modeling a try, loved it, had success with it and also decided to compete in figure a few years back and have also been blessed enough to do very well in the shows I have competed in. The process of getting ready or prep for a show is what I love the most and then seeing the final product on stage.

I think that my dance background provided me the comfort of being on stage in front of people, I really don’t think twice about the stage or the stage presence, that comes very naturally to me. The most difficult part of it all is learning the process and that doesn’t always include winning, it is a very subjective sport, you just may not be someone’s cup of tea that day that’s why you have to make sure that you are doing this for YOU and only YOU and your goal is to just be a better version of yourself than you were the show before.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: How your experience and background of many years as a dancer has helped you in your present profession of being a Fitness Model and fitness competitor?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: My years of dance and being on stages performing and performing in front of tens of thousands of people gave me a very good foundation for the stage of figure competing. I never get nervous to be in front of people on a stage, my stage presence has always come very naturally to me and I know that 110% comes from my past background. The same can be said for fitness modeling. Being in front of a camera is very easy for me, it is so much fun, I absolutely love creating images especially trying to think outside the box when it comes to fitness modeling.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Share your exercise routine that you do to maintain such a bikini perfect physique?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: My exercise routine varies depending on what I am getting ready for at that point in time. I always make sure to maintain a very healthy exercise regimen, whether it is getting ready for a show, a shoot or just being healthy for each day of life! I incorporate cardio training, weight training, I love to incorporate boxing and sparring into my routine when I can.

I also am open to try and do all different types of training. I like to step outside my comfort zone and try something new whenever I can. I believe that you get out of anything what you put into it. A lot of people will do one type of training and refuse to try another or be open to other types…I don’t agree with that. Don’t get me wrong I have some types of training that I favor over others but I really do think you can pull the positive from all kinds. I like to keep my body guessing, that’s when you see change and you can’t see change if you stay in the same routine day in and day out.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your diet? Do you take a particular fixed regulated diet comprising of nutrients and vitamins to keep you in perfect health?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: My diet consists of incorporating lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats, lots of greens and tons of water. I have a more strict regimen that I follow when I am prepariing for a show or if I need to look a particular way for a shoot. I also make sure I incorporate a cheat meal in with my regimen, I believe the body needs this to continue to progress and make the changes. I also always make sure that I have my daily intake of vitamins, I take a lot of vitamins, probiotics…I believe you really need to make sure you are taking care of your insides and providing the nutrients and vitamins your body needs to fully function at an optimal level. The better you treat the inside, the more beautiful you will make yourself outside and the longer you will live a very, very healthy life 🙂

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What is your motivation to take a multi-faceted personality of a fitness model, fitness competitor, personal trainer and nutritional expert ?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: My motivation is other people, supporters, fans that let me know how much I have helped them whether it was to get on stage, try that first photo shoot or get them in the gym to live a healthier life so that they can live longer for themselves and their family. My own motivation to always try to better myself, become a better me, be in better shape than I was last year or last event I did. Most importantly to be healthy for my family and my future children, to set an example for them of the importance of health and taking care of your body. As they always say, you only have one so treat it right!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: My skin and hair regimen is lots of water, this makes a HUGE difference. Also proper diet/nutrition and vitamin supplementation is huge. I can’t emphasize enough the difference I started to see in my hair and skin when I chose to live an even healthier life. I love getting facials, or doing them myself when I have time. I also always protect my skin from the sun, there are so many options now for sunless color it’s a no brainer and it’s so much safer!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Fitness modelling is about bold photo shoots. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold modeling?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: Fitness modeling is at times about bold shoots but never feel that you have to show more to get more. That is not the case. If you look at the leading fitness magazines and photos you will never see nude photos so my message to young girls is do NOT feel pressure to do anything of the sort. You can get to where you want with hard work, dedication and perseverance. You do not have to show more or all to get where you want to be ALWAYS remember that!!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding physique professional competitor girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in field of physique professional competitions?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham: The best advice that I can give to girls who want to be in the fitness industry whether that be modeling, competing or both is put in the work, work hard, very hard and be dedicated. And remember that it does not happen overnight. If you look at some of the biggest names in the industry and you really learn about them you will see that it takes years sometimes to get to the point that they are at. This industry is not an overnight sensation. I have put in years and I am still always learning and growing and trying to perfect my crafts.

Stay hungry, stay open to learning more and new ways and soak up as much information as you can. Stay happy I can’t emphasize this enough. Be in this industry because you love it and love seeing change and love being healthy and wanting to help others get healthy as well, that will be the biggest reward you can get. Yes it feels amazing to get on the cover of a magazine or to win a trophy but it feels even more amazing to know that because of what I do and the advice I gave or training I provided I actually saved someone’s health. I helped in the process of making another human being stay on this earth longer!! That is better than any cover, trophy or anything else I could out of this industry.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us experience of participating as NPC Figure Competitor (National Physique Committee of the USA)?

Ms. Samantha Baker Graham:Competing in the NPC Figure Division is a feeling unlike any other. The process of preparing for a show you will probably go through more emotions than you even knew you possessed haha. It is an enormous sense of accomplishment and I mean this before I even get on stage. The process, the follow through, the training, the food, and the changes….it’s a lot to process and a lot to feel…and I love it!! To be able to mark your progress from beginning to end and then from show to show, I love every bit of it.
