O’Toole was born in Agoura Hills, California, and graduated from San Clemente High School in 2005. Growing up in Southern California Ryann didn’t pick up the sport until she was 13-years old. Ryann O’Toole is Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship 2010, winner of Falls Auto Group Classic Golf and Santorini Riviera Nayarit Classic Golf Championship. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You started playing golf at a young age of 13 years and reached the pinnacle of success by being placed 9th in the U.S. Women’s Open 2011. Tell us about your journey from childhood to success in professional golf. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I look at the US Open as just a moment of success that I’ve had. Winning 3 times on the Symetra Tour, being part of the US Women’s Solehime Cup Team, breaking course record at Royal Colewood in Canada when I was 16, playing for UCLA, and the list could go on. All of these were steps I’ve taken towards the success I am still chasing. Winning. Being number one.
I believe it is my drive and determination that will get me there. Since I was a kid, I had dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. At the time I didn’t know in which sport I’d fulfill my dream in. I was just another tomboy running around with the boys! I loved sports, loved competition, and hated to lose more than I loved to win. You see, I don’t look at winning as you’ve reached the top, yes it is a moment in time that you’ve done better than anyone else, but being number one in the world, well my dreams go beyond that. I think this thinking is what propels me to do what I do today.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How your background in skateboarding, wake boarding and surfing. Has that helped you in achieving success in professional golf?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I think whenever an athlete is well rounded in multiple sports, and especially sports that are nothing like the one they do on a regular bases, I think it provides an edge. Beyond the obvious stability and balance that comes from these sports, I think any of the board sports I excelled in required guts and a lack of fear. Works great when you have a difficult shot you have to overcome or being so nervous on the first tee or last putt to win that you find enjoyment vs. pain.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Your are a professional golfer, model and a brand ambassador. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I have a great agency (Lagedare Unlimited) and team who helps me manage my goals and dreams. It isn’t just about playing golf, it’s about building a brand.
Look at some of the top players; Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis, Tiger Woods, Ricky Fowler, They all have built a brand. I think it is important as an athlete in any sport to give back to your fans and people who look up to you. So many kids look up to their favorite athletes for advice and guidance. By being part of PHIT America, and Blessing In A Backpack I’ve seen just how influential an athlete can be to others in need.
An easy way to manage a well rounded life is to be involved with things where the focus isn’t myself. Giving back to those that give so much makes what I do that much more enjoyable.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
Well my workout routine changes as I progress or my body changes. As a golfer there are key areas to always focus on: gluts, core, back and arms. I think it is important to have a well balanced routine that consists of power/speed, strength, neurological and stability. Therefore, outside the gym I think it is important to add yoga, sprint work, and surfing!
The surfing can be substituted for anything that takes your mind away from golf. Recharges the batteries in an athletic way. Hikes, cycling, rock climbing, wake boarding, whatever else of a hobby you may have.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
No special diet, I enjoy eating healthy but have no problem enjoy life’s temptations once in awhile! My way of eating would consist of a high lean protein, lots of veggies and berries, and gluten free as often as possible. On the road this can be very difficult to do sometimes. However, you’ll be surprised how many restaurants provide gluten free options.
I hardly ever drink soda (maybe 1 every 4 months), stick to water and tea. No coffee for me. I try and stay away from fake sugars as often as possible, and No fast food! I think it is very important to take vitamins. The body needs much more than what our food can provide us, especially when I am constantly traveling. If you don’t take vitamins already, here’s a simple list to get you started: fish oils, calcium, magnesium lactate, zinc, vitamins C, and B. This is just a simple start. I take about 20 pills a day! It keeps me healthy and going strong!
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
Well I think using good shampoo and conditioner helps! I never go to the grocery store to get my hair product. I think spending a little extra on good shampoo and conditioner is important especially being in the sun as much as I am. This also goes back to the vitamin subject, I think making sure your body is healthy is also very important. Standard process makes all organic products, only using plant or animal based products.
As far as my skin, that’s definitely something I learned quickly out on Tour that your skin needs the most protection being out in the sun as much as we are. Get a good sunblock for your body and face, which can easily be found at your local dermatologist. I think Facials regularly are important as well. At night you want to hydrate your skin and put back into it what the sun takes out of it during the day.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding professional golfers who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of professional golf ?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
Make big plans for yourself, imagine the impossible being not impossible. Don’t ever stop chasing your dreams and don’t ever stop dreaming. Work harder than others work around you, but most importantly have fun! Enjoy a moment off, a moment of escape. Only way to keep working hard is to have a body and mind that is willing to grind! And the only way to have that is to enjoy what you are doing. Life is too short to be doing something you weren’t born to do.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you feel before and after wining on 10th April 2011 the Santorini Riviera Nayarit Classic?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I don’t really remember it was so long ago. I will say that before felt like any other day, just another tournament. After, well after I couldn’t believe I had won. I was so in the moment that I didn’t even think about winning, just the shot at hand until it was over. Once I had that trophy and gave my speech I still was in shock. It wasn’t what I expected it to feel like.
Don’t get me wrong it felt amazing and I was incredibly happy, but it wasn’t a feeling that fulfilled me, or filled that empty space inside me. A space that I believe is saved for much greater success; maybe winning the US Open, or winning multiple times on tour and becoming number 1 in the world, or making it into the Hall of Fame? Winning is a great feeling, but my sights are set high, and I want to win majors and win multiple weeks in a row!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive professional golf ?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I think Tiger Woods has been my motivator and influencer throughout my journey. He works harder than anyone I know on the course and in the gym. He brought the athletic edge to men’s golf and I believe is the reason men’s golf is so highly recognized today! I only hope that I can be an influence to women’s golf like he was to men’s.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have done bold photo shoots. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold modeling?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
I guess I never thought of my photo shoots as bold. I work hard in the gym, I eat right and I treat my body as if it is a temple. I think everyone should cherish the body they were given. I am lucky to be blessed with great genes, and I know many have to work much harder than I do. However, everyone has to work harder than others at something in life.
You just have to make it a priority, how bad do you want it? I want people to see women golfers as athletes. I want them to see how hard we work, and how much effort we put forth. I am proud of the shape I am in. I am an athlete and pride myself on my strength and speed. I like seeing people’s reactions when they ask me what sport I play. When I respond “I’m a golfer,” it gives me great join to know I’ve changed their perspective on what “golfers” should look like.

What you wish to say about the website Womenfitness.net and message for its visitors?
Ms. Ryann O’Toole:
To all those who follow this website, already you are doing something right. You’re taking action of your life and health in a positive direction by reading what other women do to stay healthy and in shape! Living a healthy lifestyle is by far the best thing you can do for yourself. Be active, eat right, rest, avoid stress and laugh! Life is not that simple I know, trust me I was stressed and tired this morning on my “day off” going from San Francisco to Dallas.
However, later today I will get a good workout in, get my endorphins pumping, get a good sweat, and to top it off I booked a massage to end the night. I have learned the only way to keep going strong is to listen to your body and treat your body like a temple. There are two things that need to stay healthy, your body and your mind. Learn to listen to both and I hope I’ve help give some good ideas as to how I make mine physically strong and keep mine going mentally strong!
