Women Fitness:
When did you realize that you needed to lose weight?
Roberta Perry:
It has been a life long struggle. Up 20-30, down 10, up another 10, down 20 and so on. This is the first time in my adult life that I feel comfortable in my own skin.
Women Fitness:
How has your weight loss journey been? What were the milestones that you had to overcome?
Roberta Perry:
My sister got sick and passed after 6 weeks in the early part of this year. Staying on my juicing program was the only thing in my control, while everything else was spinning out, was a true milestone. Setting up a new store and moving from my old store was beyond stressful. Staying on the juicing helped curb the stress and gave me tons of energy. Going on vacation for 3 weeks, the best way to end a crappy year, made me realize how much I missed the super nutrition of the juice, so I could not wait to get back on program.
Women Fitness:
What is your fitness regime like?
Roberta Perry:
I love to walk my dog, so that is 1.5 miles at least 4-5 days a week. I love to inline skate when the weather is warm. I usually will skate 15-25 miles a week then. I also take a Pilates class 2x a week.
Women Fitness:
In a typical day, what do you take for breakfast-lunch-dinner? And what are your go-to healthy snacks?
Roberta Perry:
I have an 18 oz. juice, usually a green version for breakfast and an 18 oz. juice for lunch, usually a carrot based. I wait until 5 pm before I eat food. Then I eat whatever we are having as a family. Sometimes protein, carb and salad. Other times pizza and wings. Because I am getting super nutrition for both my daily meals, I enjoy whatever I want at dinner. If I am super nosh driven during the day, I might have a handful of sunflower or pumpkin seeds.
Women Fitness:
Who/What do you consider the greatest motivation behind your healthy weight loss journey?
Roberta Perry:
My friend Jennifer Waller started a Facebook group called the Glamper’s Guide to Juicing. She introduced me to a few fabulous movies/documentaries. The first was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross. Jen still inspires me daily. My niece Katy had watched the same movie and was starting to juice herself, so I figured it was worth a look. I have never looked back.
Women Fitness:
What is your 2018 New Year Resolution to maintain a healthy & fit lifestyle?
Roberta Perry:
Seriously to keep up what I am doing. I have kept the weight off for almost a year and never felt better. My allergies are less annoying, my knee joints don’t hurt anymore and I have tons of energy.
Women Fitness:
Share with us some Myths & Facts about following a juice diet?
Roberta Perry:
Myths: That you are hungry all the time. That you need fiber and protein at every meal. That it is difficult to maintain. That you have to juice daily. I juice every 5-7 days, and use vacu-seal type glass bottles to store it in. I also keep a very cold refrigerator.
Facts: When you strip out most of the insoluble fiber by juicing, it tricks your body into thinking it is drinking water, so your body does not start the digestion process. But because you are giving it super nutrition, you get all the good stuff and lots of energy. I get plenty of fiber with my daily food meal.
