Italian SkyDiver Roberta Mancino Wants To Fly High & High In 2019!

Roberta Mancino

Roberta Mancino is an Italian skydiver, BASE jumper, wingsuit flyer and international model. She has participated in more than 9,000 skydives and won several awards and world records. She has gone on four skydives while completely naked, and on five occasions her parachute did not open in mid-jump. In 2010, Mancino was named the World’s Sexiest Female Athlete by the magazine Men’s Fitness.

Join Women Fitness as our President Namita Nayyar chats with the daring athlete about why she loves what she does and how it makes her fit and healthy.

Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about your professional journey as a skydiver. How it all began?

Roberta Mancino:

I started skydiving many years ago when I was very young, in 2000. I always wanted to fly and it was a coincidence to find a friend who was already a skydiver. So he took me to the drop zone and I started the course.

Namita Nayyar:

You are a model, skydiver, base jumper, wingsuit pilot, stunt woman and lots more. Which one, according to you, defines you the best?                                                     

Roberta Mancino:

I think all of them it’s the mix that I need to feel happy and to have a challenge in my life. I would say modelling, I prefer less than all the other activities, I like to be in the air or in the water. 

Namita Nayyar:

Having participated in more than 9000 skydives and won several awards and world records, what is your fitness regime like while training for this sport?                     

Roberta Mancino:

I go to the gym almost everyday and when I training skydiving I do about 7 jumps a day and sometimes I go to training in the wind tunnel. I try to eat light for breakfast and lunch. 

Namita Nayyar:

Having been named the World’s Sexiest Female Athlete by the magazine Men’s Fitness, tell us about your diet & fitness routine? Are there any absolute no-no’s in your diet?                                          

Roberta Mancino:

Honestly I’m an Italian and I love to eat everything. I also love wine and pizza and pasta so I’m not very good on diet, but I train almost every day, when I am not traveling or when I’m not very tired from jumping. I don’t have a no-no in my diet I just try to eat healthy     

Namita Nayyar:

Have you ever faced any physical restrictions, due to which you may have altered your fitness regime?                                                    

Roberta Mancino:

When I train for skydiving and make many jumps everyday during world records or during projects it is very stressful so it’s hard to have a fitness regime.                         

Namita Nayyar:

Share your one experience that you are most proud of?                    

Roberta Mancino:

I’ve a done a project with underwater photographers to help the sharks, especially one project with the whale sharks in Cebu we created beautiful pictures for magazines and the news online so we helped to protect them. 

Namita Nayyar:

Share with us your most fun modelling experiences.                          

Roberta Mancino:

I think for Harpers Bazaar when they decided to do a base jumping fashion shot from a mountain in Italy. I was wearing high heels and different famous fashion designers. 

Namita Nayyar:

Share with us the best piece of advice that helped you overcome physical obstacles in life?

Roberta Mancino:

To have strong people around me, to challenge me, to look upto better athletes and learn from them this is for my life and the sport, for life in general having true honest people, friends and love. 

Namita Nayyar:

Share your fitness goals or resolutions for 2019?                          

Roberta Mancino:

If I can find better exercises while I’m traveling and I would love to get back to training free-diving so for sure, more cardio. 

Namita Nayyar:
