Vitamin D Boosts Women Diabetics’ Health

– Reported June 29, 2013

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – As recent research from Loyola University in Chicago suggests, women with type 2 diabetes can dramatically lower their blood pressure and improve their mood by taking vitamin D supplements. An added benefit is that women taking vitamin D in the study also lost a little weight as well.

Because diabetics are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency, researchers enrolled 46 women who had diabetes and insufficient blood levels of vitamin D. The participants were given weekly vitamin D supplements over six months. At the end of the study, the women’s scores on a depression symptom survey decreased by more than half. Their blood pressure also decreased, going from 140.4 mm Hg to 132.5 mm Hg, and participants lost an average of three pounds.
