Protein Links Early Morning to Number of Sudden Cardiac Arrests
– Reported, September 09, 2013
(Ivanhoe Newswire) The link between the hearts steady beat and the bodys circadian rhythm is a single protein, which is lower in those who have suffered heart failure.
According to researchers from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, most cases of sudden cardiac arrest, the number one cause of death in heart attacks, occur between six and ten oclock in the morning. A key to this relationship is the protein KLF15, which helps form and maintain channels that allow substances to flow to and from the heart. Researchers were able to identify that levels of KLF15 actually change throughout the day on a consistent schedule, and patients with heart failure have lower amounts of the protein.
