– Reported, January 14, 2013

Mariah Carey is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She made her recording debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and released her self-titled debut studio album, Mariah Carey. The album went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit records, including Emotions , Music Box and Merry Christmas , established her position as Columbia’s highest-selling act. Daydream , made music history when the second single, “One Sweet Day” a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in U.S. chart history. During the recording of the album, Carey began to deviate from her R&B and pop beginnings, and slowly traversed into hip hop. After her separation from Mottola, this musical change was evident with the release of Butterfly .

Carey left Columbia in 2000, and signed a record-breaking $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records. Carey ventured into film with Glitter . Before the film’s release she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. Following the film’s poor reception, she was bought out of her recording contract for $50 million, which led to a decline in her career. She signed a multi-million dollar contract deal with Island Records in 2002, and after an unsuccessful period, returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi. Its second single “We Belong Together” became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named “Song of the Decade” by Billboard. Carey once again ventured into film, and starred in Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire (2009). Her role in the film was well-received, and she was awarded the “Breakthrough Performance Award” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Black Reel and NAACP Image Award nominations.

In a career spanning over two decades, Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 1998, she was honored as the world’s best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards. Carey was also named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, she is the third best-selling female artist in the United States, with 63.5 million certified albums. With the release of “Touch My Body” , Carey gained her eighteenth number one single in the United States, more than any other solo artist. In 2012, Carey was ranked second on VH1’s list of the “100 Greatest Women in Music”. Aside from her commercial accomplishments, Carey has won five Grammy Awards, 17 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, and 31 Billboard Music Awards. Referred to as the “songbird supreme” by the Guinness World Records, she is famed for her five-octave vocal range, power, melismatic style and signature use of the whistle register.

When it comes to dieting, Hollywood celebrities will try almost anything to drop a few pounds, all the while raving about how their new parsley and pimento diet has helped them fit into that red carpet dress.

When Mariah Carey found out that purple foods (eggplant, plums, beets) contained powerful antioxidants that help reduce the formation of wrinkles, she announced to the world that she was going on a strict purple food diet and began eating only purple meals three days a week.

“While resveratrol, the purple pigment, is touted as the best anti-aging antioxidant, eating only purple foods is hard to do,” says Charlene Chen, a registered dietitian in Vancouver. “It would be best to emphasize dark green, dark orange and dark purple fruits and vegetables to get as many vitamins and antioxidants as possible, but the best way to prevent wrinkles is by wearing sunscreen, sleeping a full eight hours a night, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and good stress management.”

Pop star Mariah Carey is currently on a purple food diet.

The 42-year-old pop superstar has thrown herself into a new diet, three days a week, she eats purple foods like plums, grapes and eggplants — and is already loving the results, reported Showbizspy.

“They say a plum a day keeps the face-lifts away, and Mariah’s loving her sexy new shape,” a source said.Carey, who is married to America’s Got Talent host Nick Cannon and has twin babies Monroe and Moroccan, herself said that she needs to get creative with slimming down.
“Since having the babies, I realise that 90 per cent of losing weight is my diet,” she said.

A source is quoted in The Sun newspaper as saying: “It sounds off-the-wall but it’s a huge injection of healthy food in one go. Purple products are nature’s best weapons in the battle against ageing. There’s a saying that ‘a plum a day keeps a facelift away’.”

“Purple food can prevent breakdown of collagen and slow the wasting of muscles.”

It isn’t the first time Mariah has tried a bizarre diet. Earlier this year, it was revealed she was living on plain fish and soup in a bid to shed her excess pounds. The curvy star took all calorific treats off the menu until she reached her target weight. She admitted she had been on a “really bleak diet, which is basically just soups and fish prepared really blandly.

“Mariah Carey may love wearing the color pink, but she’s eating only purple!” declares Star.According to Star, “The diva has thrown herself into a new diet: three days a week, she eats purple foods like plums, grapes and eggplants — and is already loving the results.”

“They say a plum a day keeps the face-lifts away, and Mariah’s loving her sexy new shape,” a so-called “insider” tells the magazine, which doesn’t exactly have a sterling track record reporting on Carey. The “American Idol” judge Rep calls the story “absurd.”

On March 1, 2012, Carey took the stage at New York City’s Gotham Hall for a show, where only 50 tickets were made available to the public, as part of the Plot Your Escape concert series. This was Carey’s first time performing since giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe. The 40-minute set included many of Carey’s hits such as “Always Be My Baby”, “Hero”, “Obsessed”, “We Belong Together”, and a cover of Michael Jackson’s “I’ll Be There”. In May 2012, Carey announced that she wrote and recorded a new song titled “Mesmerized” for Lee Daniels’s 2012 movie The Paperboy. On June 14, 2012, Carey performed a three song set at a special fundraiser for United States President Barack Obama held in New York’s Plaza Hotel. The three songs she performed were “Hero”, “We Belong Together”, and a new song titled “Bring It On Home”, which Carey wrote specifically for the event to show her support behind Obama’s re-election campaign.

On July 21, 2012, Carey announced that a song titled “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill, will be released in early August 2012 as the lead single from her fourteenth studio album. The song was co-written and co-produced by Carey, Jermaine Dupri, and Bryan Michael Cox. Carey said about her fourteenth studio album: “I’m collaborating with a lot of my favorite people but the main thing is that I’m not trying to follow any particular trend, I want it to be well received. I want to stay true to myself and the music that I love and make the fans happy”. Carey’s fourteenth studio album is set for release in March 2013. On July 23, 2012, it was officially announced that Carey would be joining the judging panel of American Idol for season twelve. Her salary is reported to be $18 million. On July 26, 2012, it was announced that Carey will star in Lee Daniels’ upcoming 2013 film The Butler, which is about a White House butler who served eight American Presidents over the course of three decades. The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Melissa Leo, James Marsden, Minka Kelly, Liev Schreiber, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, and Jane Fonda.
