January Jones: A perfect Versace woman for the 21st century
– Reported, November 27, 2012
January Kristen Jones was born on January 5, 1978 is an American actress. She is best known for playing Betty Draper on Mad Men. Selected in “Maxim Magazine Hot 100 Women of 2002”. She appeared on the cover of “The Hot Issue” of British GQ magazine in May 2009. Awarded in 2009 Screen Actors Guild Award Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series: Mad Men.
January Jones is famous for her portrayal of Betty Draper in Mad Men but will become an action star this summer when she appears in the latest X-Men film, First Class, in which she plays Emma Frost (aka White Queen), the mutant that has strong telepathic powers and super strength too in her diamond form.
In 2009 January Jones was criticized for being too thin. However, she defended her figure then, and confirmed that she eats well;
Im from South Dakota, so meat, potatoes, crabs.
In fact for Mad Men the actresses were encouraged not to work out as they had to give that 1960′s look, so women were encouraged not to work out.
January was told that the show wanted soft women with no muscle definition. She was told to gain some weight to give a more voluptuous look. Not exactly your usual diet, but January Jones admits to liking beer and crabs However, she obviously does not overindulge in either. Although excess beer is certainly not good for your health or your waist line, drinking in moderation is perfectly healthy. Some studies have indicated that drinking one beer a day actually has some health benefits. Also, beer is a good source of carbohydrate and can be drunk as a post workout drink to refuel glycogen reserves. Although admittedly a more traditional sports drink such as Gatorade may be better!
For her role she did not require any specific training. She remains slim and healthy, and has not needed to exercise to build up an athletic appearance. Her image is mostly about costume and make-up, with a sexy 2 piece costume, cape and boots.
Its a lot of very body-conscious stuff. If you look at the comic book, shes barely dressed. Shes got quite the bod, which is very intimidating. She started working on X-Men as soon as Mad Men finished filming, so really had no time to get in better athletic shape. Apparently January did do some limited weight training and bodyweight exercises for the role once filming started, just to give a little more muscle tone in the upper body. Typical exercises included push ups on a stability ball, dumbbell curls and rows.
The usual character you see January Jones play, 60’s housewife Betty Draper in AMC’s “Mad Men,” has exchanged her era-appropriate curves for a much slimmer figure for her turn in ‘X-Men: First Class,’ where she’ll play the diamond-transforming telepath Emma Frost.
How’d she do it? The Daily Mail’s website reports “the star lost weight on a restrictive regime of fresh juices and raw vegetables.” But is a juice diet healthy? WebMD suggests yes. Linda Page, ND, PhD, author of the book Detoxification, proposes setting aside a weekend for the “cleansing” which she says, “ is a way to recharge, rejuvenate, and renew.” She also tells WebMD, “It means drinking juice — a whole lot of juice and little else — which pushes everything thing else out of your system.”
January reportedly dropped two dress sizes on the juice diet, and may have endured the strict regime longer than just a weekend. She gives a probable reason for having taken on such an extreme diet for her new role, telling Moviefone.com in a recent interview: “I’m naked. In the comics, the costume is pretty much just painted on and she has a pretty unrealistic body. So it was a challenge for me. I literally went from “Mad Men,” packed the next day and flew to London — so there wasn’t any time for me to do a lot of toning up or getting fit. I just had to wing it.”
While the juice diet has been reported to help cleanse toxins from the body, it is a fad because it should only be done for detoxification and for just a few days. If you can’t wait for ‘X-Men: First Class’ to see January’s thinner body, you can see her in Versace’s Spring-Summer Ad Campaign where she poses naked with the exception of some strategically placed, highly-priced accessories.
January Jones, who is known for her retro-curvaceous figure on the hit show Mad Men, has dropped two dress sizes for her new movie, X-Men, using a controversial juice diet. The 33-year-old actress has gone from a size 10 to a size 6 to play Emma Frost in the X-Men spin-off X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn.
She called her costume challenge to fit into. In the comic its pretty much painted on and she has quite an unrealistic body, she said.
Shes currently in theaters staring in the thriller Unknown, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger.
Jones reportedly lost the weight by embarking on a strict died of fresh juices and raw vegetables, according to Londons Daily Mail.Known as the BluePrint Cleanse, the diet consists of six bottles of juice per day. In all, it amounts to 1,100-calories a day. The diet plan claims a three-day juice cleanse helps purge toxins in your body.
Jones weight loss was noticeable at the Golden Globe Awards. She also showed off her new slim figure in a campaign for Versace. She posed nude, shielded only by a handbag.
Designer Donatella Versace described her in a statement as a perfect Versace woman for the 21st century. She is chic and elegant but deeply sensual too, Versace said.
