[Health India]: Kochi, Jan 10 : Seafood helps fight heart diseases and control diabetes along with depression, according to the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).
Seafood is low in fat, calories and carbodhydrates. The Amercian Heart Association has recommended people to eat fish at least twice a week as part of the ‘heart healthy lifestyle,’ MPEDA said in its latest newsletter.
Recent advisories revising the US government’s ‘food pyramid’ recommends that Americans eat more fish and fewer refined grains.
More than 5000 studies published around the world have reported the health benefits of a diet rich in omega-3 fatty oil from fish, including heart health, improved joint flexiblity and enhanced brain development. Other studies have shown that properties in omega-3 fatty acids may help control diabetes and it can also reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis and fight depression. More PTI
