Hydration Without Calories

Hydration Without Calories

Reported June 11, 2008

(Ivanhoe Newswire) – A new sports drink that describes itself as a zero-calorie, zero sweetener water beverage may be a good option for athletes seeking hydration. A new study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting demonstrated that Aqua-Lyte doesn’t contain the sugars, calories and artificial ingredients many sports beverages offer consumers.

Researchers for Scientific Food Solutions, LLC, led the study. For the research, 10 healthy women who exercise participated in the study. The women walked on a treadmill for an hour in hot, humid conditions. They then drank either Aqua-Lyte or the comparison drink for each pound of body weight lost during exercise. Researchers then did several measures of hydration before exercise, after exercise, immediately after beverage consumption and at 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after exercise. Study authors say the findings reveal Aqua-Lyte hydrates just as well as the other sports drinks.

Researchers say Aqua-Lyte is for those who do not want or need the extra calories or artificial ingredients in other traditional sports drinks. They say Aqua-Lyte has added electrolytes, but no artificial sweeteners or ingredients, so it tastes like water. Furthermore, they say the participants did not have the bloated feeling after drinking Aqua-Lyte as compared to the sugar containing beverages. They feel this study shows Aqua-Lyte is the only zero-calorie, hydration and fitness beverage scientifically proven to hydrate as well as a leading sports drink.
