Exercise as Effective as Prescriptions?
– Reported, October 04 2013
(Ivanhoe Newswire) Exercise is potentially just as effective as many drugs for four diseases, according to new research.
Researchers from London School of Economics, Harvard University, and Stanford University compared the effectiveness of prescription drugs and exercise for heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and the prevention of diabetes. Their research used 305 randomized trials from 339,274 participants, and found no statistical difference between the two for prevention of heart disease and diabetes, found exercise worked better for stroke victims. Diuretic drugs worked better than exercise and every other drug option for those with heart failure. The researchers stressed that more evidence was needed for doctors and patients to make the best treatment option for them.
