Shanghai Health Bureau said it had screened 300,000 retired and poor women for breast cancer and other diseases in the city this year.
The bureau had successfully detected early signs of cancer in 30 people, officials said.
“Among these women, 13 people were found to have breast cancer and 17 cancers on female reproductive system,” said Li Shanguo from Shanghai Health Bureau’s woman and child health department. “All of them have undergone proper treatment in time and are in a stable condition.”
The bureau also named five hospitals as medical centers for pregnant women to improve treatment for pregnant women with complications and ensure the health of mother and baby.
The five centers are Shanghai No. 1 People’s Hospital, Shanghai No. 6 People’s Hospital, Renji Hospital, Xinhua Hospital and Shanghai Public Health Center.
