Cameron Diaz loves unhealthy snack food “pig’s skin”

Cameron Diaz may be one of the leggiest blondes in Hollywood, with as svelte of a figure now as she had when she first hit the big screen nearly 20 years ago. So when it comes to what the 40-year-old actress would say she likes to snack on, you’d probably assume she’d push something healthy, like yogurt, almonds, or baby carrots, right? Wrong.
In a new interview with Elle UK, Diaz admits that not only is her favorite snack food something that’s completely unhealthy, it’s actually, well, kind of gross: pork scratchings.
“Oh, that’s my favorite snack in the whole world!” she says in the magazine’s December issue.

For those who don’t know, the British snack food pork scratchings (which are similar to pork rinds in the U.S.) are bite-sized pieces of a pig’s skin that are salted, deep-fried, and served cold, often at British pubs. The actress spent several months last year in the U.K. shooting the yet-to-be-released film “Gambit,” which is ostensibly where she fell in love with the greasy treat. And now for the best part: Though the cooking process involves burning off the pig’s hair, that doesn’t always work, which means sometimes the scratchings will still have a few hairs hanging on. But that doesn’t bother Diaz.
“Even with the bristles I don’t care, I’ll do it!,” she continued. “It’s my favorite thing.” The salty snack probably isn’t something Diaz indulges in too often since a 40-gram serving of the snack will set you back about 260 calories and more than 20 grams of fat. (Though it is low carb!)
Last year, however, she was singing a different tune when she was interviewed in the U.S. version of Elle. “I’m off the fried foods. I’m very thoughtful about what I eat,” she told the mag. “If you’re gonna do heavy lifting, and you want to stay small, you have to watch what you eat.”
Despite her weakness for pork scratchings, Diaz has tried to live a mostly healthy lifestyle over the years with a dedication to exercise (she’s previously said she works out five days a week and is addicted to golf), which she’ll detail in an upcoming book focused on fitness and nutrition. “It’s not about what I eat or do what I do. It’s really about the information, so that young girls and women can look at it and make their own choices,” she says. “I’d hate to give them guidelines of what I do… I’m excited about my discipline [which revolves around] a protein, a grain, and a green… I want to be disciplined. It’s not a limitation to me; it opens up my life to so many opportunities.”
The famous blonde also loves to cook and, back in 2010, revealed the recipe for her go-to breakfast dish of savory oatmeal on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” explaining she mixes the grain with chicken stock, greens, shallots, leeks, and ponzu sauce to create her favorite healthy meal.
As for whether or not Diaz will be sharing her recipes with any offspring down the road, well, it sounds like a no, but never say never. “I don’t need to have the children in my life be a part of my literal flesh,” she explains. “And anyway, there’s still a possibility of that, I ain’t that old. I’m feeling very capable.”
