Necar Zadegan is an Iranian-American film and television actress and model. She is best known for her recurring role as First Lady (and then President) Dalia Hassan on the eighth season of 24.
Whether lighting up the stage, a critically-acclaimed indie or starring in the Bravo/Marti Noxon (“UnREAL”) exec produced television series, “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce,” Necar Zadegan is the most electric talent to storm into Hollywood and is a force to be reckoned with as she gears up to reprise her role as powerful lawyer “Delia Banai” alongside, Lisa Edelstein (AS GOOD AS IT GETS), Beau Garrett (TRON: LEGACY), Paul Adelstein (“Private Practice”), and Megan Hilty (“Smash”). Zadegan’s combination of brains, sex appeal and her captivating performance in the much talked about series promises to steal the show from the minute she walks on screen. Season two of the show is scheduled to return with new episodes in early December 2015.
Bravo’s TV version of the hit book series, “Girlfriends’ Guide,” follows Abby McCarthy (Lisa Edelstein), a self-help book author and guru of all things family, who shocks the world when she reveals that her seemingly perfect life has all been a lie. After publicly admitting that she has separated from her husband, Jake (Paul Adelstein), America’s once-favorite girlfriend finds her career and marriage in a free fall. As she starts to navigate life as a single woman in her 40s, Abby turns to her new divorced friends, rather than her married ones, for advice. When she hires Delia (Zadegan) as her divorce attorney, Abby’s brother Max (Patrick Heusinger), who fought hard for the right to marry, questions his sister on how she can so easily decide to walk away from her own marriage.
The multi-faceted and mesmerizing leading lady is heralded as one of the most favorable actresses working today for a reason. Zadegan was unforgettable as delicately beautiful and resolute first lady (and President) “Dalia Hassan” on the eighth season of FOX’s mega-hit “24,” opposite Kiefer Sutherland and Annie Werching and recurring resident villainess Isabel on Nick Wauters’ NBC sci-fi-thriller series, “The Event.” She starred as Los Angeles ADA, “Scarlet Leon” with Greg Kinnear and John Ortiz in FOX’s legal dramedy series, “Rake,” created by Peter Duncan. Other notable television credits include: “CSI: Miami,” “NCIS,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Lost,” “Nip/Tuck,” “The Shield,” “Harry’s Law,” and “Major Crimes.” Zadegan hasn’t ignored the silver screen either; her breakout role as “Jehan Younger” alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Sheen in the psychological thriller UNTHINKABLE, marked her foray into film. Showing no signs of slowing down, she starred in Adam Sandler & Judd Apatow’s YOU DON’T MESS WITH ZOHAN and played the title role of “Elena Winters” in the critically-acclaimed indie ELENA UNDONE, which screened at multiple festivals worldwide, gaining international notoriety.
Born in Karlsruhe, Germany and raised in San Francisco, California, Necar began her acting career in the theater at age 16 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. She studied theater and dance on a performance scholarship from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she graduated with degrees in literature and writing and soon thereafter returned to the stage in her Broadway debut opposite Robin Williams, as part of the original cast of the Tony Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-nominated play “The Benegal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.” Necar currently resides in Los Angeles, and devotes her rare free time staying active (swimming, hiking, dancing, Pilates, yoga) with her rescue dogs, English bulldog, Charlie, and Chihuahua named Sylvie. Necar speaks four languages (French, German, Farsi, and English) and also serves as the cultural ambassador for the Levantine Center Organization.

Ms. Necar Zadegan: Well, it’s really as you have said, I studied and worked hard and it always feels like a work in progress. I always knew that this was what I wanted to do, and I pursued a work in the arts from a very young age. My studies always included theatre and dance. My work started in the theater and when I graduated from the university I moved to Los Angeles to find work in film and television.
It was like figuring out a jigsaw puzzle starting from the beginning, not knowing anyone in the business. But I knew I was good, and I looked for every opportunity I could to show my work and as it went, smaller roles turned into bigger roles. I continue to be a student of this life and this art and look for opportunities to become better all the time.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have selected a profession of being an actress, into fashion and beauty that requires a lot of hard labor, technical soundness and excellence in different faculties to finally succeed, how do you achieve that?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: I think the path is different for everybody, but I think of it like an athlete would. To be prepared, keep your head in the game, and your eyes on the prize no matter what happens.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: I think physical fitness should be a mind and body experience so I like to get outside. I’m generally an outdoorsy person like hiking and swimming. I love to run and I’m particularly into barre classes. I always studied dance so that type of training speaks to me. I still take dance classes when I have time. Yoga is terrific and if I don’t have time to do that then at least I spend a good amount of time stretching out my body.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: I am committed to an organic, hormone free diet, and I am mindful of what goes into my body. But I am lucky to be healthy and I don’t like to deprive myself.
I enjoy everything in moderation. I grew up in California which is very health conscious and raised in a home with Persian cooking so we enjoyed lots of fresh herbs and fruits which is the style of eating what I love most.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hair to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: I am very girly when it comes to my skin and hair. I love baths and scrubs and my bathroom is filled with tiny bottles of various creams. I do love this vitamin c serum that I use daily, it’s made by Skinceuticals. My good friend Ada Polla has a line called Alchimie that I use a lot of products from and they are all natural products that are gentle for my skin. I get regular facials because my job is very demanding on my skin and hair, with all the makeup every day and heat products on my hair, I try to baby my skin and hair when I get home. I use a hair masque or treatment a couple times a month and never go to bed without washing my face. The best of all though is water and plenty of sleep.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words for our inspiring and budding women models and actresses who all are your fans, what should they do for their climb to the ladder of success in field of acting and fashion?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: Work hard, become the best in your field, study with many different masters, and always stay positive about the journey.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are leading media personality, model and film & television actress. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: I suppose it seems like a lot but it is my life and I am used to managing it. It’s always good to get back to the basics when it feels overwhelming. Calling my parents who I am so lucky to have, dinner at home, stuff like that, just getting my feet back on the ground.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: You made your Broadway debut in the Tony Award winning and Pulitzer Prize nominated play ” The Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo,” opposite Robin Williams. Elaborate your memorable experience working in the theater?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: Theater will always be a great love of mine. It is truly an actor’s medium and the relationship with the story and the audience cannot be recreated that way in the other mediums.
The Bengal tiger show was particularly special because it was my Broadway debut and all of our debut’s including Robin’s. He was a huge star and it brought great notoriety to the play and we found great success because of that, but he was always just one of us when we were working. He was a great actor and a truly remarkable human being. I loved him very much. It was a great show, and I won’t forget the experience.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tell us more about your endeavor working in the television series, “Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce” and also about season two of the show that is scheduled to return with new episodes in early December 2015?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: It’s very exciting to go into the second season with this show, I think it’s hit a cord with women in a very special way and it feels great to be a part of such a successful show. My character is a dynamic, self- made woman who has become the woman she always wanted to be. The show is a story about finding your way and yourself amidst, the pursuit of love and certainly, and my character finds a wrench in her well paved path when she suddenly finds herself in love with a recent divorcee.
In this season coming, she says yes to his proposal and wrestles with all kinds of things while she is planning for a wedding she never in a million years thought she ever would want. And I think the story raises a lot of questions about marriage as a whole and what it means for a modern woman and why it is really necessary or not.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: Who has been your inspiration and motivation that led you to your success in the world of acting and modeling?
Ms. Necar Zadegan: That’s actually a very deep question, I don’t know if I can get into it all right here, but I think a career in the arts is something that finds you instead of the other way around. Then everything you are and everything that’s built you finds its way into your work and into the stories, sometimes even the ones you may not be initially that invested in because you have to find a way to make the story compelling and so you have to search even deeper to find out how to do that.
So my family is always a part of that. They have been my biggest fans and biggest supporters since the beginning of time and I am always inspired with them in my soul.
