She is also a model.
Marousa Polias is Australian Ladies Amateur Golf Champion 2004. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You must have started playing golf at a very young age and reached the pinnacle of success by being the winner of Australian Women’s Amateur Golf Championship by the age of 21. Tell us about your journey from childhood to success in professional golf. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
I began playing golf a lot later than most of my peers. At the age of 10 years old I was quite interested but the local golf club would not accept junior golfers under the age of 12 so I continued with gymnastics. When I was 12, the interest in golf had deteriorated but I was encouraged to give it a try by my father and his business partner. They said to have a go and if I didn’t like it, I could just pass on it. I was accepted into the golf club and there were quite a lot of kids selected but only 1 other girl.
We eventually plucked up the courage to go and play with the others and about 6 months after initially joining, I had a handicap of 45, the maximum. When the school holidays came around I dropped about 20 shots in 4 weeks and the rest is history. At the age of 19, I qualified as an amateur for my first Professional event, the Australian Open and that was when I knew I wanted to pursue a career as a Professional Golfer. I was accepted in the the New South Wales Institute of Sport (a Government body recognizing elite athletes) and benefited greatly from the program thanks to the leadership of the Coach.
Winning the Australian Amateur Championship at 21, was the pinnacle of my Amateur career. It was something I had prepared for with incredible intensity and I am extremely proud of that achievement – it also was the beginning of the road to my Professional career. I could not have achieved anything without my family and my late coach who always encouraged me to set short ,mid and long-term goals. I was also lucky enough to have some amazing encouragement of friends who acted as caddies and supporters. I also need to acknowledge my support groups in other countries as I would never have been able to feel “home” without them. I have been very fortunate to have such amazing support worldwide and I will never forget it.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Your are a a leading model and a professional golfer. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
When I was competing, it was pretty easy to manage as I am very organised. Usually the two go hand-in-hand because we are promoting, more often than not, golf products and corporate appearances at golf events.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
I had a very strict fitness regime which consisted of weight training for strengthening and a lot of core and cardio-vascular training. The most effective method of cardio I found was interval training. I would run for approximately 60 minutes at set intervals. I did a lot of stretching and used thera-bands. I also would have remedial massage and in-between use foam rollers and massage balls to relieve muscle tension. Nowadays, I love to do pilates and high intensity workouts at the gym with an instructor.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
I never had a specific diet as I have always eaten healthily but I do believe that you should not deprive yourself of anything. Satisfy your cravings but in moderation.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have glowing skin and gorgeous hairs. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
Thank you! I have been growing my hair long for years. In the last 12 years I have not used any kind of colouring (I might need to start in the next few years ha ha) I try not to apply too much heat and like to use nourishing oils to keep it hydrated. When growing your hair out, it is very important to maintain the ends regularly otherwise, it will have to be all cut off and you see the results slower. On my skin, I have always used high level 50+SPF as the Australian sun is incredibly strong.
In Australia, we are very fortunate that we are made aware of the dangers of the sun from a young age. I have always worn a hat and sunglasses when competing. My skin regime consists of regular exfoliation and minimum twice-daily cleansing and toning. On a weekly basis I use a purifying mask to revive my skin. I use Chanel products and have found that my skin responds very well to them. The biggest contributor would probably be sleep however, I love my sleep! It is so important in order for your body and mind to function.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding professional golfers who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of professional golf ?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
Hard work is something that will always get you places, never shy from it! Don’t let criticism from others who know nothing about your routine or life bring you down. ALWAYS be honest and true to yourself. Look after yourself first but NEVER forget those who have helped you along the way.
Ms. Namita Nayyar: How did you feel before and after securing the second position in Aristocrat Mollymook Women’s Classic Golf Championship ?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
Mollymook Hilltop golf course is a wonderful challenge and a golf course I love returning to. The tournament was an amazing day where I was able to laugh and joke with my pro-am team and when you are in the winners circle, it makes it even more satisfying as a group and an individual.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive professional golf ?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
My parents have always been there for me and have always assisted as best they could. My late coach was always an inspiration to work with and two people very close to me who also have unfortunately now passed away were huge motivators and contributors to my successes in golf.
Ms. Namita Nayyar:
You have done photo shoots for Australian Woman Of Professional Golf Calendar 2009 and others. They are bold and hot. What advice you wish to give to the women of today to be body confident in order to do such bold modeling?
Ms. Marousa Polias:
When presented with opportunities that are in the best interest of the promotion of Women’s golf and Women’s sport for that matter, I feel indebted to participate as I have benefited and accepted so much from my chosen sport. A lot of planning is required prior to the shoots in order to achieve a tasteful outcome so all parties are happy.
What transpires after the release of publications is out of my control but I am very comfortable in my skin. It is important to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and love what you see. Be honest with yourself always and do what makes you feel happy and healthy.
