Marion Crampe is French National Pole Dance Champion 2012 and Bronze Medalist at the World Championship IPC in Singapore. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar President Women Fitness

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You started career at a young age with classic ballet and ballet jazz. Later you discovered street jazz and hip-hop. In the year 2006 you took your first pole dance class, this was the catalyst that made you reach the pinnacle of success in pole dancing by winning French National Championship 2012. What factors you consider were responsible that made you achieve that?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

I am a very passionate person, not only about pole but about many things such as life and people. I found in Pole Dance a mix of those things,in the same discipline: I can explore my body, push the limits, play out of my comfort zone, feel that you can fly and most of all meet amazing people all round the world and share life experiences with them.

I was not really built for gymnastic, but I always keep in mind to believe that hard work pays off. I train on a consistent basic by myself and stay focused with the support of friends, colleagues and family. Hard work and belief do not guarantee success, but it is a great foundation to help you achieve goals and step forward with your dreams.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

You learned pole dancing from your mentor Liana, one of Australia’s Pole Dance pioneer who took your pole dancing to a pinnacle. Tell us about your mentor contribution and the style you embedded in your pole dancing?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

I met Liana in 2007, in Paris. Destiny made our paths cross. We used to be pole teachers at the first pole dance school in Paris for couple of years.

She is one of the pioneers of Pole dance in the world. She shared with me her skills, her technique and much more. I found in her much more than a pole mentor, she really contribute to build the woman I am today, physically and spiritually. She is now back in Australia but the connection is still intense and present no matter the distance. She is a guiding force and true inspiration.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you shall like to share?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

I train 5/6 days a week for 2/3 hours on the pole (besides performances and teaching workshops). I switch my training schedule between conditioning, contortion, dance, exploration time and I add some gym sessions. I also love to go for other activities to get new ways to explore the body’s possibilities, to get inspired.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

I use to say I don’t have a special diet. I eat according my lifestyle. We are all so unique regarding diet and needs. After a long (not always easy) process to understand myself, I think I found the diet that fits me and permits me to feel good, fit and happy. I am pescatarian, I never go for process food and soda. I eat a lot of fruits, nuts and veggies (trying as much as possible to go for organic). I just have a huge addiction for italian capuccino. I just recommend people to their listen their body.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding pole dancing girls who all are your fans, they shall like to know from you, what they should do for their climb to ladder of success in field of pole dancing?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

I do believe that the best way is to really follow your soul and your mind. Always believe that if you want it, you can have it. Work hard and healthy. As for many others, Poledance has changed my life. I feel more secure, strong, loving every day more and more, my body and myself… It makes me happy. I guess being happy is a true treasure of life.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

How did you feel before and after securing the third place in the women’s category “ultimate champion” IPC (International Pole Championship)?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

IPC was an important part of my competitive journey on different levels. It is one of the most famous competitions around 100 women in the semi finals, and just 8 went through the finale. It was already incredible for me just to get into it. It will maybe be my last professional pole competition. This year was even more important because I won the “Pole Idol 2013” title related to the nominations done during the time of the competition.

I practice and train for this piece for 5 months. With my choreographer and friend Kyra Johannessen, I worked to create a unique piece out of my comfort zone and at the same time something connected to who I am and me as an artist.

The piece name is “ Guiding the Vessel”. Here the story line:

A vessel is a powerful, complex and resistant engine.
Mentally and physically, a human-being is similar.

”Guiding the vessel” represents my artistic path.
The pursuit of the consciousness, strength and maturity to bring the body above and beyond its limits.
Just like a race where you are the only one on the track.

I want to share the journey that brought me to this moment.
It is about the obsession of perfection, the dedication, the fear to turn into the light and reach my artistic identity.

I take a deep breathe with my eyes closed. I feel on my skin the loss of balance. I live fully this moment and I finally take the last impulse to reach serenity.

Avec Passion

I went to Singapore quiet and strong as I worked to the fullest on it, ready for enjoying the stage, no matter the result. I love competition most of all for the fact that I can meet and be around pole friends who are competing as well. As the line up was made with some of the best pole dancers in the world, I really didn’t expect to place.

As Pole dance is still in the process of being recognized, I have to admit being the winner or not doesn’t really change anything. Just the fact to be there and perform surrounded all those amazing artists (women and men) is already THE thing. For sure, I am so happy about the result but what it is more satisfying is to meet more people from this amazing community, and take part of its history.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about the activities of your endeavor at Milan Pole Dance Studio?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

Krystel Arbia, founder of Milan Pole Dance Studio, contacted me in 2010 for being the leading teacher of her studio in Milan. Without ever meeting her before, I had this feeling to go for it and…I did. We grew the studio together and she guides me to build my career as an artist, instructor and most of all, as businesswoman.

Last year, as the studio was expanding. She proposed me for join the business. Today Milan Pole Dance Studio is located in Milan (2 studios), Montreal and recently Dubai. Check out at: http://www.milanpoledance.com

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Who has been your greatest influencer and motivator in your success in the field of your career in competitive pole dancing?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

To give just one name would be hard as several people took part of the process. Most of them are women. To pull up some names:

– First of all, my “pole mamma”, Liana who shared more than pole dance with me.
– Krystel Arbia, founder and my business partner of Milan Pole Dance Studio, who contribute to change the direction of my life and build the artist and professional I am today.
-My family who has supported me from the beginning
– Most of all, students from all around the world who inspire and support me.

Ms. Namita Nayyar:

Tell us about the events that led you win Best Show Award at Aerial International Competition 2011 in Bern?

Ms. Marion Crampe:

Aerial International Competition was the second championship I took part in my pole career. It was also the first time I got into the final between some of the best pole dancers in the world, at that time. I will remember this moment also because the all team from Milan Pole Dance Studio (students and friends) traveled to support me.

I built a piece in connection with my feelings at that time. I have to admit I was not really happy with my technical performance but I felt really into my character. When they announced the result, I realized “I’ve got my first international title.”

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
