Women Fitness President Ms. Namita Nayyar had a candid interview with Malaika Mihambo, the current Long jump world champion to talk about her workout, diet, hair & skin care and success story.
Namita Nayyar:
You are the current world champion in the long jump with your personal best at 7.30 meters, how does it feel?
Malaika Mihambo:
Actually, it feels quite normal. Sure, it’s great to know that you became world champion with an extraordinary performance. But nothing really changed. I am still who I was before this victory and I am happy that I don’t feel different about myself. My self-esteem is not relaying on these kinds of outside factors.
Namita Nayyar:
Did you always want to become a professional athlete?
Malaika Mihambo:
Somehow yes. When I realized that I belong to the best at my age while growing up, I had the dream of winning an international medal in the senior class and compete in the Olympic Games at least once in my lifetime. Even though, I struggled from time to time with my abilities and my role: „Why do I have to be so good? Can’t I just have a normal life? “Well, but then 2016 came and I found myself achieving both my life time goals. Since then my answer to why I want to do professional sport changed. Now it’s more about pushing my limits, develop myself and share experiences and connect with people.
Namita Nayyar:
Introduce us to a day in your life. Besides sports what are your other passions?
Malaika Mihambo:
I like to start my days early even on weekends. I start with mediation, stretching, a good and healthy breakfast and a good book with tea in the morning. After having a good morning I like to study (master’s degree in environmental science), play piano and cook freshly every day. Recently I started a social project called “Malaika’s Herzsprung”. In times of Corona, I started a program for primary children on YouTube. Every day at 10 am I offer a live session. Sport is an important pillow of the program but it is equally important as the other ones. Everyday has a different motto and consist of sport, dexterity, knowledge transfer mostly about nature and personal self-development. The feedback of children and parents is great and the children are very active in sending contributions in forms of letters, videos and drawings. Link

Namita Nayyar:
What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine that you may like to share with our viewers?
Malaika Mihambo:
For me it’s a diversified and careful training. I train weight lifting, endurance, sprint and jumps twice. I train once a day and have one day free each week. For myself, I feel that regeneration and soft and spared training are best. I want to live in a healthy body also when I stopped my career as a professional.
Namita Nayyar:
Share the diet that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit? 5 foods you absolutely love.
Malaika Mihambo:
I prefer vegetarian food, since two month I started to test going vegan. I love healthy, organic and fresh food. Thus I cook everyday freshly. I also love warm food and I could eat it three times a day, which sometimes happens. I attach value in meals that are full of fibre, vegetables and rich in plant-based proteins. I also try to drink at least 2L of water or unsugar tea every day. I love nuts, dried unsugar bananas, pasta and all kind of vegetables.
Namita Nayyar:
Having to train constantly in extreme climate conditions, how do you take care of your skin and hair?
Malaika Mihambo:
I use my self-made face and body oils (oil and essential oils of choice) which are based on my skin’s needs. Since my hair is short I need way less care which is good for traveling.
