Achievements of Lisa Opie

  • Miss United States fourth runner-up 2012
  • Miss Nationwide 2014

She was born in Denver, Colorado, She was blessed to be born into a bi-lingual, multicultural family. Her mother is Japanese and her father is from Texas. She is fluent in English and Japanese. She was home schooled and given the opportunity to travel across the country and internationally while completing her elementary education. She has traveled to 48 of the 50 states (Except Alaska and Maine), she has traveled to 28 countries, and I has lived in Colorado, California, Illinois, Virginia, Texas, Delaware, and North Dakota, as well as Japan, Barbados, and Spain.

She completed her undergraduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in history. During her undergraduate studies she spent a semester abroad at the University of Barcelona studying the politics of the European Union, and another semester at the University of the West Indies where she studied Caribbean perspectives of the African Diaspora.

Being homeschooled, she was raised to be an independent thinker. She became passionate about politics at a young age and accompanied her grandfather and father to the Constitutional Party National Convention in 2004 and the Republican National Convention in 2008. Although she was not old enough to vote, She learned the process of federal elections and was interested in learning more. As a freshman in college originally majoring in Art, she became more and more involved in politics. She joined Young Americans for Liberty, Young Democrats, and College Republicans (this may seem like a strange mix but she became involved in all three political organizations so that she would learn as much as possible about the roots of each political party). She earned two scholarships to attend seminars at the Leadership Institute in Washington DC. After spending her spring break volunteering for the successful campaign of Senator Rand Paul in 2010, She was given the opportunity to be a delegate to the Southern Republican Leadership Convention in 2010 where she met Michael Steele, Mike Pence, and Ron Paul. Although most of her involvement may seem to be with the Republican party, She does not claim to be associated with any political party.

In spring of 2012, she stumbled into her career. She has been modeling since the age of 14 and decided to use her network that she established in the fashion industry to incorporate a swimwear line. She named her line Vizcaya Swimwear after the street that she lived on in Barcelona, Carrer De Vizcaya. Through the help and support of her network and friends in the industry, she has been able to show her designs on the runways of New York, Atlanta, Richmond, and Miami.

She was home schooled for elementary school, attended a private Christian school for middle school and attended public schools for high school. Throughout middle school and high school, she was bullied by her peers for the way she looked and acted. She was able to overcome her struggle with bullying through pageantry.

Being a contestant in a pageant required her to be healthy, fit, confident, and philanthropic. She has held the titles of Miss Teen Williamsburg, Miss American Samoa, Miss North Dakota, and Miss Virgin Islands. She was placed in the top 8 at Miss Virginia United States, top 5 at Miss United States 2012, Top 15 at Miss United States 2013 and Miss Nationwide 2014. She believes that pageants are not about winning that cash and crown, but it is about who you become in the process.

Lisa Opie is Miss Nationwide 2014. She is in conversation with Namita Nayyar, President Women Fitness.

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You being crowned Miss Nationwide 2014 that propelled your professional career to the height where you have been at the top of the world of glamour. Tell us something about this fairy tale journey?

Ms. Lisa Opie: I am so thankful and blessed to have such a successful career! One thing I would like to say is that it did not come easily. I was bullied growing up and I was very insecure. One of the ways that I proved my bullies wrong was through the pageantry. They called me ugly and stupid and I wanted to prove them wrong! Now, I am in a place where I don’t even remember these bullies’ names!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You are world leading media personality, entrepreneur, model, professional host, swimsuit designer, actress, fashion Blogger and an activist. How you manage such a remarkable multi-dimensional lifestyle?

Ms. Lisa Opie: I am very passionate about my career! Everything I do doesn’t feel like “work” to me. Time management is very important for me and everything can quickly become very hectic if I don’t manage my time wisely!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: What exercises comprise your fitness regime or workout routine you may wish to share?

Ms. Lisa Opie: Although I have my boring days at the gym, I love being active to stay fit. I love yoga, paddle boarding, jogging outside, and salsa dancing!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Do you take some special diet or have a strict menu that you follow to remain healthy and physically fit?

Ms. Lisa Opie: I try to eat very clean… only organic fruits and vegetables, and foods high in protein. I also started snack juicing last year and I love it!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have glowing skin and gorgeous hair. Do you take some kind of skin treatment to keep it young and glowing and secondly what you do to your hairs to make them look so stunning?

Ms. Lisa Opie: I have to thank my genes for my skin. I am half Japanese and I am very thankful to have Japanese skin! My hairstylist Melanie Dunn does a phenomenal job on my hair cuts and always has the perfect products to recommend to keep it healthy!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Tells about endeavor, where you are being creator and designer of luxury swimwear brand Vizcaya Swimwear ?

Ms. Lisa Opie: Vizcaya Swimwear happened very unexpectedly! I was on track to be an attorney. One day in my third year of college, I decided to make my own bathing suits. I started modeling them and they became very popular so I decided to turn it into a business! I am very happy with how everything turned out!

Ms. Namita Nayyar:
How did you feel before and after your memorable win of Miss Nationwide 2014 in December 2013 ?

Ms. Lisa Opie: Miss Nationwide is the first national title that I have won. It was amazing to win the title, because the pageant system focuses on community involvement and personal accomplishments more than outer beauty. To know that I had what it takes to win that title meant the world to me!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: Advice and motivational words to the inspiring and budding fashion model girls who all are your fans and shall like to know from you for their climb to ladder of success in the field of modelling?

Ms. Lisa Opie: Never give up, and have thick skin! Rejection is 99% of the industry. I post a lot of advice on my articles at www.ladycodeblog.com. I also do model development and pageant coaching for girls who would like to work with me one on one to become a model or to win their next pageant!

Ms. Namita Nayyar: You have been completed your undergraduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University where you earned your Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in history. How has your education helped you in enhancing your professional career?

Ms. Lisa Opie: I learned a lot about running a business through my political activism and volunteerism. Surprisingly, many tactics applied to political campaigns can be applied to marketing a business! The professional skills I learned through being involved in Student Government and my sorority has immensely helped me develop leadership skills as well.
